Last year, the Government announced a number of changes to the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV).
Phase two of changes will come into effect on Monday, 10 March 2025, and include:

- The removal of wage thresholds for all AEWV and Specific Purpose Work Visa
- End of Sector Agreements within AEWV (no longer required without the median wage threshold)
- Amending the Work and Income engagement requirement to be declaration based.
- Increasing the income threshold for partners and dependent children of AEWV holders
- Reduction in minimum experience required for AEWV
- Changes to the maximum continuous stay and visa durations for certain AEWV holders
- Extension of the ability to reuse job check numbers when applying for a further work visa for the same roles
- Recognising certain roles as ANZSCO Skill Level 3 (which were previously recognised as skill level 4 or 5).

“Six things one might not know about the NZ Passport”

[1] - New Zealand passports are actually made in Canada. They’re personalised in New Zealand in the Department of Internal Affairs offices in Christchurch, Wellington or Auckland, or at one of their international sites in London or Sydney

[2] - The Department of Internal Affairs says the NZ passport offers visa on arrival or visa-free travel to over 190 countries.

[3] - On the photo page of new NZ passports, there’s a little green fern printed with thermochromic ink. This type of dye changes colour depending on the temperature and it’s used to protect against counterfeit or fake passports. If your passport is genuine, then the fern will disappear under heat, such as placing a finger over it to warm it up.

[4] - NZ passport is the most beautiful passport in the world. There’s an additional imagery printed in the passport that is only visible under UV light. The Department of Internal Affairs says the reason behind the intricate artworks is to make it more difficult to fake. The colours and designs of these pages are carefully chosen to maximise security without impacting functionality – visa stamps, while being used less frequently – need to stand out against the pages.

[5] - New Zealand passports are biometric, meaning they contain information about your identity stored securely in a chip. Water and heat damage can mean they don’t function as they should so it’s best to care for them like you would any other electronic.

[6] - When shopping overseas, you might be able to purchase your goods tax-free if you present your passport.
