Alex Sintes and I are now officially on holiday until 11 January and getting into the Christmas spirit! (On the 2nd bottle of Bolly!) it’s been a very challenging and stressful year but we got through it, and after a well deserved break, we will be back into it next year! We are getting a lot of enquires about the implications of the new Trust’s Act which comes into force at the end of January 2021, and if we were not so manically busy with the fallout from COVID and the fervour of the Auckland property market, we would send our Trust clients an email with a précis of the relevant changes, but no-one needs to panic - if you need to amend your Trust Deed or you need to make disclosure to beneficiaries - it doesn’t need to be done before the Act comes into force, and there is no penalty on Trustees for not disclosing, and many clients have minor beneficiaries which you won’t need to disclose to anyway - so my suggestion is that you schedule in a meeting with me next year so we can review your Trust Deed and then decide what changes might be necessary and if we need to disclose information, how to manage that process

We have been crazy busy over lockdown rearranging property settlements that weren’t able to take place during lockdown and advising Commercial Tenants and Landlords regarding their lease terms and rental concessions - then we got to Level 3 and were then busy completing the deferred settlements. Hopefully all of our Quinn Law small business clients are now back in their business and getting back on track! We are now almost “caught up” with our backlog so will be looking forward to taking new clients and new instructions over the coming weeks. Hope everyone has been enjoying extending their “bubble” to include additional friends and family and getting out to a cafe or restaurant for a change of scenery?

Lockdown day 1 - It’s been business as usual in the Quinn Law office today - Alex all set up with laptop printer and scanner at her home and of course my office is already at home! Very thankful we still have some work to keep us occupied during the lockdown!

Hi All - hope everyone is trying their best to “Keep Calm and Carry On” after the lockdown announcement today! (hard I know - Alex and I have been busy today renegotiating Friday settlements to settle tomorrow and Wednesday so clients can get movers to move - and renegotiating all our April settlements to settle in May after hopefully “lockdown” is released. Obviously I work from home so I will be available for email and phone consultations (and can sign documents by scan and email) if you also have these facilities - if you need a document witnessed (if you are an existing client that I know) I can do this by “FaceTime” scan and email - so will do my best to meet your legal needs over this difficult time!
