It looks like a freak overnight flood in Berhampore has left a local family homeless and their business in ruins, with kids waking up screaming and months of recovery ahead—reminding us that even well-established suburbs aren’t immune to nature’s surprises.

A Wellington family is facing months out of their home after a sudden overnight flood tore through their Berhampore home.

It looks like Greymouth’s house prices have doubled and aren’t slowing down—new faces are rolling in, the community’s getting more colourful, and the town’s being reshaped by a market that’s clearly running on full tank.

Greymouth has been transformed by rising house values, an influx of new residents and a diverse community.

It looks like many of us are wondering if 57’s too late to buy a home—and while the government’s not running a retirement housing service, NZ Super’s not a reward for tax payments; it’s the quiet promise we made to each other decades ago, and trying to audit who ‘deserves’ it would cost more than the benefit itself.

It looks like first-time developers are giving inner-city Auckland brownfields a go — and quickly learning, as one put it, that building there isn’t for the fainthearted; it’s a steep, no-nonsense lesson in urban regeneration.

“Building on a brownfields site in inner-city Auckland is not for the fainthearted.”

It looks like the Reserve Bank’s got a tough call ahead— inflation’s already breached the target band, fuel prices are set to spike again, and consumers are trading down from dining out to filling up the tank, which doesn’t bode well for anyone trying to keep the economy on an even keel.

It looks like Kiwibank’s latest rate hikes are keeping pace with the pack, though their economists are still whispering ‘wait and see’ while others are already hitting the gas—probably because they’ve got a few more term deposits to fill before the next OCR meeting.

Kiwibank is the latest big lender to lift its home loan rates.

It looks like the government’s finally put a proper watchdog on the beat to protect property rights, and frankly, it’s about time — hope this Board keeps the red tape in check while letting homeowners and developers get on with the business of building New Zealand.

Regulation Minister David Seymour welcomes the appointment of the Regulatory Standards Board (the Board), established by the Regulatory Standard Act 2025 (the Act).

It looks like many Kiwi retirees are banking on downsizing to fund their golden years, but that windfall typically covers just 3.3 years of living costs — and that’s before you factor in moving expenses, scarce stock in desirable suburbs, and the emotional toll of saying goodbye to the family home.

It looks like folks are still putting their houses on the market despite the looming fuel storm—turns out, some sellers are more stubborn than a kiwi on a cold morning, hoping the tide turns before the settlement date.

Now is a terrible time to sell a house but determined sellers are pushing through the storm and hoping for the best.

It looks like ANZ’s latest rate tweaks—effective April 2026—are just keeping pace with wholesale markets and a revised OCR forecast, though it’s worth noting over 80% of their home loan customers are still under 5%, and more than 40% are ahead on payments, so unless you’re sweating the small stuff, you’ve probably got a bit of breathing room.

The increases by ANZ follow an update to the bank's official cash rate forecast this week.
