From 24 August 2026, Immigration New Zealand has
updated the SMC qualification points system. Here's
what you need to know:

🎓 NZ Doctoral Degree (PhD) = 6 points
🎓 NZ Master's Degree (30+ weeks full time) +
Bachelor's from any country = 6 points
🎓 NZ Bachelor's Degree (Level 7) = 5 points
🎓 Overseas Master's Degree + Bachelor's = 5 points
🎓 Overseas Bachelor's Degree = 4 points

✅ You only need 6 points + a job offer from an
accredited NZ employer to apply for Residency!

🇳🇿🚨 MAJOR NZ IMMIGRATION UPDATE — TODAY 24 AUGUST 2026!

Immigration New Zealand has launched 3 pathways to residency under the Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) — effective TODAY! Here’s what you need to know 👇

✅ PATHWAY 1 — Skilled Work Experience:
For ANZSCO Level 1–3 skilled workers:

• 5 years relevant experience (including 2 years in NZ)
• Earning at least 1.1x median wage ($38.50/hr)
• ⚠️ Amber List occupations need 5 years NZ experience + 1.2x median wage ($42/hr)

✅ PATHWAY 2 — Trades & Technician:
For eligible trades/technician roles:

• Level 4+ qualification
• 4 years post-qualification experience
• Including 18 months in NZ at median wage
• ⚠️ Amber List occupations NOT eligible for this pathway

✅ PATHWAY 3 — Points Based (existing):

• Earn 6 points through income, qualifications or NZ registration
• Now offers MORE points for NZ qualifications and overseas degrees!

🟡 AMBER LIST occupations (stricter rules apply) include:
Hotel Manager, Restaurant Manager, Office Manager, ICT Support, Web Administrator, Baker, Chef and others

🔴 RED LIST occupations — hospitality, food service, beauty and general management — excluded from new pathways
