What an incredible Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori it’s been in our offices across the motu (country), celebrating 50 years of this important kaupapa! Across our Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) and Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington) offices, we came together to enjoy some delicious paramanawa (afternoon tea) and participate in Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori quizzes, sparking friendly competition between teams.

A special thanks to the talented tauira (students) from Te Kāreti o Horokiwi, Newlands College who treated our Te Whanganui-a-Tara kaimahi (Wellington staff) to an epic Kapa Haka performance that truly lifted our wairua (spirit).

While this week is drawing to an end, our commitment to celebrating Te Ao Māori across our firm continues. More information can be found in our latest ESG Overview (link in bio).

Ngā mihi nui to our RMcV whānau for the enthusiasm you brought to Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, making this a memorable celebration for all.

Mānawatia a Matariki! Earlier this week, our people gathered in Tāmaki Makaurau for a special kōrero with Ropata Paora from Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, followed by paramanawa (afternoon tea) to celebrate Matariki mā Puanga.

Ngā mihi nui, Ropata, for sharing your wealth of knowledge about Matariki and its history with us. The delicious kai catered included savoury hāngī pies, fried bread and rēwena, and were greatly appreciated and enjoyed by everyone.

Last but not least, we're very grateful to our D&I Committee for their hard work behind the scenes to make it all happen seamlessly!

We hope you are enjoying your own celebrations with friends and whānau up and down the motu. Have a safe and happy Matariki period.

Last week, our amazing Auckland Social Committee organised a fun summer function at Auckland Bowling Club for friendly competition, good vibes, and great company.

There was pizza on hand to keep everyone fuelled and the real-fruit ice cream and bar was much appreciated to cool us down in the heat. It was great to spend quality time together in a fun setting, and it was also a wonderful opportunity for our summer clerks to continue getting to know people at the firm.

Last week we had our scholars join us in Auckland for work experience, where they were able to learn from some of our people and experience what life is like at Russell McVeagh.

It was a pleasure to get to know these amazing young people - their contributions and insightful questions have left us richer for the experience!

This year, the focus of Matariki is Matariki heri kai, which comes from the Māori proverb ‘Matariki whetū heri kai’ meaning ‘Matariki, the bringer of food’.

Kai is central to the celebration of Matariki, so to celebrate, our Tāmaki Makaurau office held a paramanawa (morning tea) enjoying some delicious parāoa parai (fry bread) while our Te Whanganui-a-Tara office will be treated to some hāngī next week, courtesy of Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Ngā Mokopuna.

Mānawatia a Matariki! We wish you and your whānau a Happy Māori New Year!

Earlier this month our Sustainability Committee organised a bake sale in both of our offices to raise funds for Trees that Count - a charity that allows people and businesses to gift or donate native trees. All together our people were able to raise enough funds to donate 148 trees! 🧁🌳
