Yesterday 2pm announcement by the Reserve Bank of a 0.25% cut to the Official Cash Rate marks a turning point. The first cut since 2020, it will hopefully inject confidence into future prospects for business and the economy generally.

We’ve been observing a shifting dynamic in the property market for some time, today’s announcement is the confirmation of the shift that will change the dynamics of a property market that, on the back of the recent mortgage rate cuts, has just started to be reinvigorated.

Last week's holding of the Official Cash Rate (OCR) at 5.5% was at face value a benign result. However, the hawkish commentary and talk of a delay in seeing interest rates fall will have some homeowners rethinking their position.

While some banks actually reduced rates this week, the Reserve Bank's commitment to meeting the inflation target will translate into a property market where the value of an offer for the homeowner has just gone up.
