The High Court of New Zealand has approved the NZ$10.9 million settlement of the Hino class action.

The settlement, the first of its kind secured by Shine Lawyers NZ on behalf of thousands of Hino truck owners and lessees across New Zealand, relates to certain Hino diesel vehicles supplied in New Zealand between 2010 and 2022, including a range of 300, 500 and 700 series models.

It is the first settlement of a class action which Shine Lawyers has had approved by the New Zealand courts, marking a significant milestone for Shine and its clients.

The claim alleged breaches relating to misleading fuel efficiency, emissions representations and consumer protection obligations.

Hino has denied the allegations and no admission of liability has been made as part of the settlement.
