The FTA starts today. There are THREE changes.
1. The new Temporary Employment Entry (TEE) allows for 5000 highly skilled visa holders in New Zealand at any one time, with most places allocated to skilled occupations already identified on New Zealand's Green List.
2. The working holiday scheme will be capped at 1000 spaces, once it opens.
3. From 16 November 2026 post-study work rights will be expanded, with Indian graduates who have New Zealand PhDs becoming eligible for post-study work visas of up to 4 years, rather than 3 years.

Family members of New Zealanders applying for temporary visas -

From 16 November 2026, family of New Zealand citizens or residents who are applying for temporary entry visas can submit new applications in enhanced Immigration Online.

INZ are also updating immigration instructions to improve their clarity, ensure they remain fit-for-purpose and better reflect the original policy intent. INZ have paused some aspects of the Our Future Services programme while we reassess the next steps. Once this move to enhanced Immigration Online is complete, INZ will pause further visa transitions while the reassessment is underway.

- It’s important for the public to know who they can trust and who regulates the industry when it comes to immigration advice. There is only ONE regulatory body protecting migrants and that’s the Immigration Advisers Authority. The rest of the groups are mainly for professional development and supporting the immigration industry when it comes to advocating for policy change. (It’s not about jealousy but about misleading the public.)

Immigration professionals say it could mislead migrants, he says they’re just jealous.
