Immigration New Zealand is expected to announce further details shortly on the two new residence pathways, along with changes to existing residence pathways.

INZ will be running its first Q&A session with Immigration Practitioners on 23 June, and will also be attending the NZAMI seminar on 25 June, which I will be facilitating.

There will no doubt be a lot of policy detail to unpack, and I will be running a series of informational videos to help explain the changes in a clear and practical way.

I’ll also be available to answer your questions as the details are released.

EFFECTIVE 16 NOVEMBER 2026 - New graduate students studying a level 5-7 will be eligible for a 6-month SGWV👏. Also, if an international student is onshore and their enrolment is terminated, INZ will CANCEL their visa without issuing further letters ton challenge the decision.⛔

Starting June 1, 2026, proficiency in the English language will be a requirement for ANZSCO/NOL Skill Level 3 roles.

It's important to note that there are exemptions for AEWV holders who already possess visas and are applying for their maximum continuous stay of up to five years.

Employers and visa holders should be cautious about the over-inflation of roles to higher skill levels, as this could result in declined visa applications due to not meeting the mandatory English requirements.
