Another reminder for migrant workers to come forward if you feel you are being exploited by your employers. Don't be scared as Immigration takes these matters seriously and support people that get exploited. It's not as complicated as you may think. You have your rights as a migrant worker.

Ratha Ny, the owner and director of R.S.X Limited (trading as the Bakehouse CafΓ© in Murupara), pleaded guilty and was convicted in March 2025 for 4 charges under the Immigration Act 2009 for providing false or misleading information to Immigration New Zealand.

Investment Category Update - More Attractive Opportunities for Overseas Investors:

Yesterday (10 Feb 2025), the NZ Government announced that they are simplifying the Active Investor Plus Visa to help New Zealand encourage growth and make investing in New Zealand more attractive.

From 01 April 2025, changes to this visa will include:
β€’ Replacing the existing weighting system with two simplified Growth and Balanced investment categories.
β€’ Reducing the minimum investment amount from $15 million to $5 million for Growth and $10 million for Balanced category investors.
β€’ Broadening the scope of acceptable investments to include bond and property-type investments, with fewer immigration requirements (such as time required to be spent in New Zealand) for migrants who choose more active investments.
β€’ Reducing the time Growth and Balanced category visa holders have to make their investments in New Zealand.
β€’ Removing the English language requirement.

More information on these changes will be announced in early March 2025.

Finally some news for the work visa holders.

On Monday 16th Dec 2024, the Government announced few work visa reforms. Amongst several of these reforms, it has been confirmed that wage thresholds for all AEWV holders will be removed in March 2025. Also migrants will need to demonstrate 2yrs of relevant work experience instead of 3yrs currently.

There have been other announcements as well. Feel free to contact me for more info.

A very shocking and disappointing news came about today as Immigration made more sudden changes for AEWV holders in supporting their family's visas.

The Government has made further changes to the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) scheme. From today, AEWV holders in ANZSCO level 4 or 5 roles can no longer support work, student or visitor visa applications for their partners and children.

Partners and dependent children can still apply for their own work, student or visitor visas if they meet immigration instructions in their own right.

Today’s change does not affect:

- people that already hold visas as a partner or dependent child of an AEWV holder

- in progress applications from partners or dependent children of an AEWV holder received before 26 June. Those applications will be considered against the requirements that were in place on the date they applied

- AEWV holders in ANZSCO level 4 or 5 roles with a pathway to residency. This includes those in roles on the Green List or a Sector Agreement with a residence pathway, and those earning at least 1.5 times the relevant median wage (currently $31.61) threshold

- AEWV holders in ANZSCO level 1, 2 or 3 roles.
