Happy mid year kainga!

Great news for those eligible under Parents Residence Category.

New Parent Boost Visitor Visa coming this year 29 September.

The Government is introducing a new Parent Boost Visitor Visa, to allow parents of New Zealand citizens and residents to stay in New Zealand for up to 5 years.

As you have an expression of interest in the Parent Resident Visa ballot, the new Parent Boost Visitor Visa may be another option to spend time with your family in New Zealand.

Applications open on 29 September 2025. To be eligible, you will need to:

have an eligible sponsor, and you or your sponsor must have enough income or funds
meet residence-level health requirements
hold comprehensive health insurance for the duration of your stay
genuinely intend to stay in New Zealand temporarily.
If you are granted this visa, you will need to complete a health and insurance check 3 years after your visa is granted. You can apply for the visa twice, allowing up to 10 years stay in New Zealand with your family if you meet the requirements.

More details on the requirements will be available closer to this date.

The Parent Boost Visitor Visa is in addition to the Parent and Grandparent Visitor Visa for shorter stays. It is not a residence visa, and the Parent Resident Visa, which is capped at 2,500 places a year, remains as an option for people interested in living in New Zealand permanently.

1. Accredited employers will no longer have to pay specific wage thresholds. Instead, the New Zealand minimum wage applies, and employers need to pay the market rate for the job. This change does not affect existing wages in employment agreements.
Employers will be able to hire migrants with relevant work experience of 2 years instead of 3 years.

2. Employers will need to declare they have advertised lower-skilled roles with Work and Income, and interviewed suitable candidates, and should keep evidence of this in case it is requested later. However, they will no longer need to provide evidence of their engagement in their Job Check.

3. The AEWV duration for ANZSCO level 4 and 5 roles will increase to 3 years, to align with the maximum continuous stay. Those currently on 2-year visas will be able to apply for a further year.

Hello everyone!

It’s been a while, apologies for lack of updates.

Anyways, this is an important update to partners of AEWV and ESWV holders.

Open work rights for more partners of workers.

The Government has announced that more partners of migrant workers will soon receive visas with open work rights, allowing them to work for any employer.

From 2 December 2024, people granted a Partner of a Worker Work Visa can receive open work rights if their partner holds an Accredited Employer Work Visa and works in a higher-skilled role, or a lower-skilled role on a pathway to residence.

This includes migrants:

- working in an ANZSCO Level 1-3 role and paid at least $25.29 an hour (80 percent of the standard median wage for skilled residence visas)
- working in an ANZSCO Level 4-5 role on the Green List or covered by the Transport or Care Workforce Sector Agreements, and earning at least the wage thresholds for residence
- working in an ANZSCO Level 4-5 role and paid at least 1.5 times the median wage.
It also includes migrants on an Essential Skills - Work Visa earning at least $25.29 an hour.

Current Partner of a Worker Work Visa holders will be able to apply for a variation of their visa conditions to switch to open work rights from 2 December, if their partner meets the new criteria.

Kia Ora Kainga!

The Government has made further changes to the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) scheme.
From today, AEWV holders in ANZSCO level 4 or 5 roles can no longer support work, student or visitor visa applications for their partners and children.

Partners and dependent children can still apply for their own work, student or visitor visas if they meet immigration instructions in their own right.

Today’s change does not affect:

* people that already hold visas as a partner or dependent child of an AEWV holder
* in progress applications from partners or dependent children of an AEWV holder received before 26 June. Those applications will be considered against the requirements that were in place on the date they applied
* AEWV holders in ANZSCO level 4 or 5 roles with a pathway to residency. This includes those in roles on the Green List or a Sector Agreement with a residence pathway, and those earning at least 1.5 times the relevant median wage (currently $31.61) threshold
* AEWV holders in ANZSCO level 1, 2 or 3 roles.

Kataki kamata ahoni koe kau AEWV holders he skills level 4 and 5, e ikai teke lava omai ho partner and children based ho visa.

Kainga Koena mahalo ngali pau ange faama pulu fu’u fiema’u ‘aupito.

Changes have been made to the General and Operational Instructions.

Job Check applications received from employers and Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) applications will be priority allocated where the offer of employment or employment is for:
a dairy cattle farm worker (ANZSCO code 841512) or dairy cattle farmer (ANZSCO code 121314); or
an occupation on the Green List (Appendix 13 in the INZ Operational Manual).

The dairy cattle farm worker or dairy cattle farmer priority allocation is time bound and will only apply for Job Check applications submitted, or AEWV applications lodged between 14 May 2024 and 1 August 2024 (inclusive).

These changes exclude AEWV applications where a job token is being reused.

This change came into effect on 14 May 2024.

Further information is available on the Immigration New Zealand website.

Malo and good day 😊
