AIP VISA – JANUARY 2026 SNAPSHOT

As we move into 2026, I would like to share a brief update regarding the Active Investor Plus (AIP) Visa programme.

Recent data highlights continued interest in New Zealand’s AIP Visa. Between April and December 2025, 131 applications were approved, with the United States leading approvals (47), followed by Hong Kong, China, Germany, Singapore, Japan, and Taiwan.

Notably, 77% of investors selected the Growth Category (NZ$5m) over the Balanced Category ($10m), reflecting the lower investment threshold, shorter investment period, and a highly flexible residence requirement of just 21 days over a three-year period.

If you are exploring NZ residence through investment, feel free to get in touch.

𝑴𝒚 𝑪𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒎𝒂𝒔 𝑹𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 (2025)

Every New Zealand summer, I read a physical book during the holidays. Since last year, I have enjoyed revisiting books from my own collection.

I love biographies and memoirs, and this Christmas I chose 𝘈 𝘚𝑒𝘷𝑒𝘯𝑡𝘩 𝘊ℎ𝘪𝑙𝘥 𝘢𝑛𝘥 𝘛ℎ𝘦 𝘓𝑎𝘸 by Patrick Yu Shuk-Siu. Yu was a prominent Hong Kong barrister active from the 1950s through the 1980s, and his book provides vivid accounts of a few landmark cases in Hong Kong, showcasing his sharp legal mind.

His path to law was unexpected. In 1938, he first won a local scholarship to study education at the University of Hong Kong; after WWII, in 1947, he received a Victory Scholarship to study PPE (Philosophy, Politics and Economics) at Oxford. While at Oxford, he changed his focus to law, passed the UK’s Bar exam, and began practising at the private Bar in Hong Kong in about 1953.

Yu’s story reminds me that life rarely goes according to plan.

I look forward to sharing next year’s holiday read!

REFLECTION AND MY 2026 RESOLUTION

I enjoy this way of learning - learning by doing.

Over the past year, I have been teaching myself Canva, a web-based graphic design platform. As an IT novice with a busy schedule, I learned the platform bit by bit and have now acquired the basic skills to transform a photo into an image by adding words or graphics for my social media posts.

This DIY learning process is challenging but enjoyable, and despite the frustrations, the trial-and-error method has given me a great sense of achievement.

At the beginning of 2026, I resolve to learn AI skills and apply them to my work.
