𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗮: it covers more business activities. For example:
🔹 Selling or buying goods and services
🔹 Talking about setting up or growing a business in NZ
🔹 Meeting people from an overseas company
🔹 Going to a short training session to watch and learn
🔹 Joining a trade mission or a tourism convention

𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗮: the work visa for one job or event. It now also covers:
🔹 People sent by their company abroad to do a job in NZ
🔹 Skilled self-employed experts with a contract in NZ

𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄
1️⃣ The Business Visitor Visa is for trips of up to 3 months in 1 year.
2️⃣ If you get paid or rewarded for what you do in NZ, that counts as work. You will need the work visa.
3️⃣ You still need to meet the usual visa rules, like good health, a clean record and enough money for your stay.

A good start is to ask two questions: What will the person do in NZ? How long will it take? The answers show which visa fits better.

Are you from India and wanting to work, study or explore NZ? Here are 3 new visa options and when each one starts.

On 20 October 2026, a new trade deal between India and New Zealand started (called the India-NZ Free Trade Agreement). It is mostly about business, but it also brings new visa options for Indian nationals.

👉 3 new visa options
𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗮
Open now. Up to 5,000 people can hold this visa at one time, for up to 3 years. You need a job offer from a recognised NZ employer.

𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗮 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗵𝗗 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀
Starts 16 November 2026. Indian graduates with a PhD from a NZ university can work for up to 4 years after they finish.

𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗮
It is for Indian people aged 18 to 30. Up to 1,000 places a year, for up to 12 months. It is planned to start within 2 years.

It is the first time when clear visa options made just for Indian nationals. Each visa will have its own rules, so the details matter and we are following them closely.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗹?
🔹 Your child can study in NZ while they wait for a residence or citizenship decision
🔹 It lasts 12 months
🔹 If the decision takes longer, your child can get another visa
🔹 You don’t need extra proof of money or a sponsor
🔹 Your child doesn’t need a school enrolment to get the visa
🔹 Your child may be treated like a local student for school fees

𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘁?
Your child can get this visa if all of these are true: One parent is a NZ citizen or resident and that parent supports the application.
You and your child plan to stay in NZ at the same time nd your child has applied for NZ residence or citizenship (and that decision is still pending).

𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄: children adopted overseas may not qualify in some cases. It depends on the country of adoption, so it’s worth checking with us.

This is a good step for families because until now, there was no student visa made just for these children. Now this new one gives kids a place in school during a time that can feel uncertain. Remember that you will need to show papers like proof of the parent’s status, proof of your family link and proof that your child has applied.

Timing matters because summer holidays are one of INZ’s busiest times and you want your visa approved before you fly. Investment documents can be complicated and it takes time to check them.

✅ A letter explaining how your money was moved
✅ Proof of where your money was before it moved, and how it was kept
✅ Proof of any short-term investments you used along the way
✅ Proof you changed your money into NZ dollars
✅ Your bank transfer records (called SWIFT or TT records)
✅ Proof of where your money is being kept in NZ, if it is not yet in an investment
✅ Proof that your investments meet the rules for your visa
✅ Documents that are clearly labelled and listed in order, so officers can find things quickly

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱
In 2023, a minimum pay level was added for NZ residence visa, but some people in certain jobs were allowed to skip it while they built up their NZ work time. Since 2026 October, the new rule now has clear limits. It only covers migrants in these jobs who:
🔹applied for their visa before 29 September 2023, and
🔹gained some of their work time while holding that visa.

This new rule can cover either your past work or your job when you apply for residence, not both.

𝗔𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲
Someone applied for a visa in 2022 and was paid below the median wage while building work time. The special rule covers that time. But their job must meet the median wage, currently NZD $35.00 an hour, when they apply for residence.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲?
It is a safe and secure way for some international students to send money to NZ and use it while they study. It also helps students show Immigration (INZ) that they have real access to money to support themselves.

𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘁?
Eligible students from China, India, Nepal, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗳 𝗺𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁?
Students from other countries show they have money in other ways, such as using their own funds or having a sponsor. A sponsor can be a family member or friend who is a NZ citizen or resident.

𝗪𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴❗BNZ is only open to students at universities and polytechnics. If you study at a Private Training Establishment, you can keep using ANZ.

Immigration New Zealand has shared a reminder for summer visitors: The best time to apply for their visitor visa is right now because lots of people apply at this time of year. When an application arrives early and has everything in it, it can be checked faster.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜𝗡𝗭 𝗮𝘀𝗸𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
🔹 An acceptable photo
🔹 Translations of any documents that are not in English
🔹 Proof of a real reason for the visit, like seeing family or a holiday plan
🔹 Proof there is enough money for the stay or a sponsor who will cover the costs

𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄
✅ The Visitor Visa costs from NZD $441.
✅ You must apply online. Paper forms are no longer used.
✅ INZ says 80% of applications are decided within 2 weeks.
✅ You can stay up to 6 or 9 months, and study for up to 3 months, but you can't work.
✅ You need at least NZD $1,000 a month, or NZD $400 a month if accommodation is already paid.

𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀
If you are coming from Australia and hold an eligible Australian visa, may not need a Visitor Visa for New Zealand. You may be able to come and stay for up to 3 months.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀
1️⃣ Where you apply from
Many people in Australia on a temporary visa can't apply for a student visa (subclass 500) from inside the country now. You need to be outside Australia when you apply and when your visa is approved.

2️⃣ Studying again after your course
This also applies to current students who want to start a new course. You may still be able to apply in Australia if you:
🔹 want to study for a PhD
🔹 are moving up to a higher level of study
🔹 are going to primary or secondary school
🔹 can't continue because your school or college has closed down
🔹 need up to 12 more months to finish your course at the same school

3️⃣ Bringing your family
Adding family after your visa is approved isn't possible, only way when they can join you if you
🔹 are studying a PhD
🔹 have a scholarship from a foreign government
🔹 are sponsored by the Australian government
🔹 are a student from certain Pacific or Southeast Asian countries

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲
✅ Your current student visa is not affected.
✅ Applications sent in before 2 Oct 2026 are checked under the old rules.
✅ Current Student Guardian visa (subclass 590) holders can still apply for another Guardian visa from inside Australia.

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗺 𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗡𝗭 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀. Since 25 September 2026, both partners must be at least 18 when the visa application is made.

It applies to:
🔹 Partnership-based visitor, work and residence visas
🔹 Culturally Arranged Marriage Visitor Visa

Immigration New Zealand will only look at your 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝟭𝟴 or older. For example, if you were living together while one of you was 17, that earlier time can't be used as evidence.

𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀
Couples still need to have lived together for at least 12 months. The new part is that the 12 months can only start counting once you are both 18. So the applicant can't qualify until both of you are at least 19.

𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀
There is no fixed 12-month rule. But you still need enough evidence from after you both turned 18 to show you live together in a genuine and steady relationship. Turning 18 doesn't usually mean you can be approved straight away.

𝗔 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 is to note the date you both turned 18 and start keeping shared records from then. A clear, organised story is much easier to show.

Good news for many people
🔹Visas already granted are not affected.
🔹Resident visa applications sent in before 25 September 2026 are not affected.
🔹The rule doesn't apply to partners included in skilled, business, humanitarian or other non-partnership residence applications, or in general visitor visa applications.

𝗪𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱𝗻'𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗡𝗭 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 visa before you apply? Changes to the Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) came into effect this August and one important part of these changes is the "wage threshold", your pay needs to meet it.

𝗔 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗪𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗹 has launched by Immigration New Zealand and it can:
🔹work out which pay level applies to your pathway
🔹check whether the pay you earned in past skilled jobs meets that level
🔹apply special settings, including a 5-month grace period

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘁
You can use it for your current job or job offer, you can also use it for any past skilled work experience you plan to include in your application.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘁?
✅ The date your work visa was granted
✅ Your hourly pay for your current job or job offer
✅ The SMC pathway you plan to use and how many points you are claiming
✅ The date you submitted or plan to submit your Expression of Interest (EOI)
✅ Details of your skilled work (start and end dates, hourly pay and any pay changes)

Think of this tool as a first check, not the whole journey because 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁:
🚫 decide if you are eligible for the visa
🚫 check if you have enough skilled work experience
🚫 tell whether you meet the other requirements
