🌟What is AEWV
Accredited employer work visa (AEWV) is a new temporary work visa the New Zealand Government is introducing from mid 2022. This initiative is driven by the need to fill genuine skill shortages, upskill and hire New Zealand workers, combat migrant exploitation.

🌟When do employers have to apply for accreditation?
1.The Government has decided to defer the introduction of the new Accredited Employer Work Visa until 4 July 2022.
2.Employers will be able to apply for accreditation before the AEWV is introduced, from 23 May 2022.
3.Employers accredited under the current system will need to apply and meet the policy requirements of the new accreditation system.
4.Employers only need to be accredited under the new system when they want to start hiring migrants on AEWVs.

🌟The AEWV will replace 6 work visas
The AEWV replaces these 6 work visas:
1.Essential Skills Work Visa (remains open until AEWV introduced)
2.Essential Skills Work Visa — approved in principle (remains open until AEWV introduced)
3.Talent (Accredited Employer) Work Visa (closing 31 October 2021)
4.Long Term Skill Shortage List Work Visa (closing 31 October 2021)
5.Silver Fern Job Search Visa (closed 7 October 2019)
6.Silver Fern Practical Experience Visa (closing 31 October 2021).

If the migrant you want to hire is not already in New Zealand, they will only be able to travel here if they:

Workers who have a critical purpose include critical health workers, 'other critical workers' — specialist or essential staff who we assess on a case-by-case basis — and some marine crew arriving by sea. If you are hiring marine crew or 'other critical workers', you need to make the initial request for them to travel on behalf of your workers.

Requests for critical workers are considered on a case-by-case basis by Immigration New Zealand officials.

There are 3 categories, each with their own criteria, where you can bring employees into New Zealand:

worker needed for a short term role — less than 6 months in total
worker needed for a long term role — more than 6 months
worker for an approved class.

At 10am (NZDT) on 14 March 2022, the following working holiday schemes will open to applications:

Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, United Kingdom, USA, Japan.

Border class exception for 5,000 international students
30 March 2022.
A fourth border class exception for 5,000 students has been approved by the Government for the following international students in 2022:

Universities – 1,450 student places
Te Pūkenga – 700 student places
Schools (Year 9 and above) – 1,000 student places
PTE (including pilot training) – 850 student places
English Language Schools – 1,000 student places.
The general timeline and implementation for Cohort 4 is outlined below. It is intended that most students will arrive in New Zealand in time for a mid-2022 study start.

Update relating to the Parent Resident Visa.
"Migrant parents who want to join their adult children as residents in New Zealand have longer to wait before a decision is made on restarting a long-shelved immigration programme.
Thousands of parents and their families have waited six years since the visas were frozen in 2016 pending a review. The government closed the programme again in 2020 when the pandemic hit - weeks after new policy criteria were launched.
In a statement, Immigration Minister Kris Faafoi said no applications could be made until after the review took place.
"I can confirm that the government's signalled review of the parent category is to look at barriers to access, including consideration of the income thresholds. That work will take place before the category reopens. This review is currently scheduled to begin in the second half of 2022."

The opening dates of the following capped Working Holiday Schemes have been changed:
• South Korea (10 May)
• Luxembourg (17 May)
• China (19 May)
• Taiwan (25 May)
• Argentina (26 May), and
• Chile (31 May).

Citizens of Canada and the United Kingdom who qualify for a new WHS visa or extension of travel conditions under two recent special directions retain their eligibility for the maximum visa entitlement of 23 months from the date of first arrival. Effective date is 21 April 2022.
