Silage season doesn’t always go to plan, so having a few fallback options sorted before the grass hits the ground can make all the difference.

Carrfields Machinery’s Murray Chesterman recently joined Country-WideWide CONNECT to talk about planning ahead, keeping machinery moving and how the Carrfields team supports farmers when things don’t go to plan in-season.

One pass, maize establishment in action in Hawke’s Bay.

A great day in the paddock at Ed White’s Barnsdale Farming operation, showcasing the HORSCH Focus 6.75TD/Maestro planter and its strip-till approach to maize establishment.

Delivering significant fuel and time savings through fewer passes, the Focus 6.75TD demonstrated the ability to apply targeted fertiliser and create an optimal root zone in combination with precision seed placement.

Consistent seed depth, even as conditions change.

A new HORSCH Avatar 6.16 SD is at work in Central Otago, direct drilling a grass and clover mix into sprayed-off paddocks.

With AutoForce, coulter pressure can be adjusted on the move, while the system responds to changing ground conditions to help maintain a more consistent seed depth.

Thanks to the team at Green to Gold in Wanaka for choosing HORSCH and working with Carrfields Machinery.

One pass. Maize planted, fertiliser placed and soil loosened.

The HORSCH Focus paired with a Maestro planter was at work in Central Hawke’s Bay this week, establishing maize in a low-disturbance strip-till system.

Maize seed, starter fertiliser and main fertiliser were all placed in a single pass, with the tractor using around 35 L/hr during the job.

A practical example of reducing passes while getting several key jobs done at once. HORSCH describes the Focus system around the same principle: loosening, targeted fertiliser placement and sowing in one pass.
