Subject: Urgent Appeal for American Diplomatic Intervention in the Case of Mr. Sivarasa Anojan, Sri Lankan National, Facing Imminent Ex*****on in Saudi Arabia

Mr. President,

With sentiments of the deepest respect, I have the honour to address you as a Norwegian citizen, law graduate, journalist, and publisher of Norway News. I write to you not only as the leader of a great nation and a key ally of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, but as a statesman with the unique moral authority and diplomatic leverage to prevent a grave humanitarian tragedy.

I write concerning the imminent and deeply troubling case of Mr. Sivarasa Anojan, a young Sri Lankan Tamil migrant worker who was employed in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. As reported, Mr. Anojan posted a comment on Facebook during an online debate—a comment he deleted within minutes and for which he issued a public apology. He was initially sentenced to five years’ imprisonment and a fine of three million Saudi Riyals. I have learned with profound concern that, upon appeal, the Appellate Court in the Eastern Region has reportedly confirmed a capital sentence on 17 September 2026.

This case appears to involve no violence, no terrorism, no organised crime, and no calculated campaign. It concerns a young man of humble background, far from his family, who has expressed genuine remorse and who, by all accounts, acted impulsively and without malicious intent. His ex*****on would be a disproportionate and irreversible response to a youthful mistake.

Mr. President, your administration has consistently championed human rights and the rule of law on the global stage. Your voice carries immense weight with the leadership of Saudi Arabia. I respectfully submit that this is a critical moment to use that influence.

Furthermore, the international community has been deeply concerned by the Kingdom’s record on protecting journalists and free expression, a concern that was gravely underscored by the brutal murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. The confirmation of a death sentence for a young man’s online comment threatens to further cement a perception of intolerance and injustice, undermining the very stability and international partnership that your administration seeks to build.

I do not write to question the judicial sovereignty of Saudi Arabia. I write to appeal to your power of diplomacy and persuasion. I most humbly and respectfully request that you:

1. Direct your Secretary of State and your Ambassador to Saudi Arabia to immediately engage with the Saudi government at the highest levels to express the United States’ deep concern over this case.

2. Personally raise the case of Mr. Sivarasa Anojan with His Majesty King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and urge him to exercise his sovereign prerogative of royal clemency.

3. Advocate for the commutation of Mr. Anojan’s sentence and his return to Sri Lanka to reunite with his family, including his mother, who has appealed for compassion.

Your intervention could be the decisive factor in saving this young man’s life. A quiet, firm, and high-level diplomatic appeal from the United States is a powerful force for good. By acting, you can uphold the principles of justice and mercy and prevent an irreversible act that would create a lasting stain and create further tension between the Kingdom and the international community.

I entrust this appeal to your Office, with the respectful request that it be given your urgent attention. I remain ready to provide any further information or documentation that may assist.

May God guide your decisions and bless the United States of America.

With the highest respect and esteem,

Subject: Humble Appeal for Royal Clemency and General Amnesty in the Case of Mr. Sivarasa Anojan, Sri Lankan National

Your Majesty, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques,

With sentiments of the deepest respect and esteem, I have the honour to approach Your Majesty through His Excellency the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Kingdom of Norway. I do so as a Norwegian citizen, law graduate, journalist, and publisher of Norway News, and as one who has long admired the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s leadership, its heritage, and its commitment to justice tempered by mercy.

I recall with honour the historic opening of the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Oslo and the visit to Norway of a distinguished member of the Royal Family, during which I had the privilege of expressing my congratulations on that important step in Saudi-Norwegian relations. It is in that spirit of friendship and respect that I now venture to submit this humanitarian appeal.

I write concerning the case of Mr. Sivarasa Anojan, a young Sri Lankan Tamil migrant worker who was employed in the Kingdom. As reported, Mr. Anojan posted a comment on Facebook during an online debate—a comment he deleted within minutes and for which he issued a public apology. He was subsequently sentenced to five years’ imprisonment and a fine of three million Saudi Riyals. I have learned with deep concern that, upon appeal, the Appellate Court in the Eastern Region has reportedly confirmed a capital sentence on 17 September 2026.

I do not write to question the judicial process of the Kingdom, which I respect. I write, rather, to appeal to the sovereign prerogative of mercy that belongs to Your Majesty as Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. The case appears to involve no violence, no terrorism, no organised crime, and no calculated campaign. It concerns a young man of humble background, far from his family, who has expressed genuine remorse and who, by all accounts, acted impulsively and without malicious intent.

Your Majesty’s reign has been marked by repeated acts of royal grace and humanitarian initiative, including the generous orders that have allowed prisoners to return to their families. The Kingdom’s noble tradition, rooted in the teachings of Islam, places mercy alongside justice. Sri Lanka is a friendly nation with many of its citizens contributing peacefully to the Kingdom’s development. Mr. Anojan’s family, including his mother, has appealed for compassion, and the Sri Lankan government has been urged to seek his return.

In these circumstances, I most humbly and respectfully request that Your Majesty may graciously consider:

1. Extending royal clemency to Mr. Sivarasa Anojan, and commuting his sentence;

2. Including him in any general amnesty or royal pardon that Your Majesty may be pleased to grant; and

3. Directing the relevant authorities to review his case with compassion and, if Your Majesty deems fit, to permit his return to Sri Lanka to reunite with his family.

I entrust this appeal to His Excellency the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Norway, with the respectful request that it be transmitted to Your Majesty’s Royal Court. I remain ready to provide any further information or documentation that may assist.

May Allah, the Most Merciful, preserve Your Majesty, grant you continued health and wisdom, and guide the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to ever-greater prosperity and peace.

With the highest respect and esteem,
