“Every night, I am back on the battlefield. I can no longer sleep.ˮ
These words were spoken before the by a survivor of the crimes committed near Bikoši, a village in Central Bosnia, on 8 June 1993. At least 24 Bosnian Croats were killed after being separated from a larger group of civilians and soldiers captured near Travnik.

More than three decades later, the testimonies of survivors and others continue to remind us of the suffering caused by crimes committed during the conflicts in the former Yugoslavia. Along with the judicially established facts, their stories are preserved in the archives of the ICTY and its successor, the , helping to ensure that the experiences of victims and survivors remain part of the historical record.

The IRMCT honours the memory of those who were killed and the resilience of those who survived.

The town of Prijedor, in north-western Bosnia and Herzegovina, was the site of some of the most horrific crimes committed during the 1990s conflicts in the former Yugoslavia.

These crimes were brought to light during proceedings before the ICTY and the Mechanism. The Judges were able to establish facts about the events in Prijedor as a result of survivors and other witnesses coming forward and giving evidence.

In addition, they relied on the statements made by a number of accused persons, who pleaded guilty to charges in their indictments and spoke about their role in the crimes.

The IRMCT pays tribute to the victims of the crimes committed in Prijedor.

After establishing control over the city of Prijedor, Bosnia and Herzegovina, at the end of May 1992, the Bosnian Serb authorities ordered the Muslim and Croatian populations to wear white armbands while moving through the city for identification purposes and to hang white sheets on their houses as a sign of loyalty to the new authorities.

In the following months, a systematic campaign of crimes against non-Serb civilians ensued, and the camps Omarska, Keraterm, and Trnopolje became symbols of suffering during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

remembers the crimes in Prijedor and honours all those who suffered or were killed in that city during the war.
