Matters Wills and Trusts
Talking of death in the absence of death, is perceived as ''taboo'' in The African culture. But not talking about death cannot wish it away. These are some of life's inevitables.
There has of recent been an emerging trend where 'our' funerals degenerate to a platform where persons related and/or unrelated to the deceased engage in contests to inherit and dis-inherit each other. The victims of this horrendous behaviour are normally the next of kin; our children, our spouses, our parents or our siblings.
Simply writing a Will can and should protect your loved ones from this trauma. Your wishes shall be respected and upheld in death.
Where there are surviving minors creating a Trust shall confer the Legal BUT not beneficial ownership of your property on a Trustee who shall preserve your assets until the children attain the age of majority.
Writing a Will does not mean we drop dead with the last full stop, but rather it ensures your next of kin are provided for, when you depart.
