For Tomomi Fujita, Head of Japan Desk, the role is built on trust, cultural understanding, and long-term relationships across Japanese and European business environments.

Many Japanese companies we work with are entering Europe for the first time. That is why our role goes beyond guidance. It is about understanding their goals, translating different ways of doing business, and turning those needs into practical and compliant solutions across legal, tax, HR, payroll, immigration, and employment.

Through close collaboration between our Japan Desk and internal specialists, we act as a bridge between Japanese business culture and European operations, ensuring ambitions are translated into something that works in practice.

先週、Rotterdam Japan Clubのイベントの一環として、 De Kuip にて Feyenoord Rotterdam にお会いするという大変光栄な機会に恵まれました!

オランダ・日本のビジネスコミュニティの皆さまと再会できただけでなく、駐オランダ日本国大使・道井緑一郎様のお話から多くの示唆を得る貴重な時間となりました。

本イベントは、日本とロッテルダムの間に築かれてきた長期に渡る強固な関係を改めて実感する機会でもありました。スタジアムツアーに加え、フェイエノールトで活躍する日本人選手の皆さんとの交流を通じて、スポーツ、文化、そして国際交流が、両国をより一層近づけていることを体感し、多くの刺激を受けました。

Last week, we had the pleasure of visiting Feyenoord Rotterdam at De Kuip as part of a Rotterdam Japan Club event. It was a great opportunity to reconnect with members of the Dutch–Japanese business community and to gain valuable insights from Rokuichiro Michii, Ambassador of Japan to the Netherlands.

The event highlighted the strong and long‑standing relationship between Japan and Rotterdam. From the stadium tour to engaging conversations with Feyenoord’s Japanese players, it was inspiring to see how sport, culture, and international exchange continue to bring both countries closer together.

Sick leave in the Netherlands is not just an HR process. It is a legal obligation that requires structure, oversight, and active employer involvement.

Employers are required to continue salary payments for up to two years, while managing a structured reintegration process with strict timelines and documentation requirements.

Even when working with an occupational health provider, responsibility remains with the employer.

For international organizations, aligning these local obligations with internal processes and resources can quickly become complex.

The Dutch Tax Authorities (Belastingdienst and Dienst Toeslagen) have transitioned their banking services from ING to Rabobank as of 1 May 2026.

While the change is operational in nature, it is important to ensure internal records and systems are updated accordingly, as different tax types now use different IBANs.

For reference:
VAT, CIT, income tax, and wage tax payments now use NL04 RABO 0200 1122 44.
OSS payments now use NL04 RABO 0200 1444 48.

The payment schedule remains unchanged, with the first payments from the new account expected on 22 June 2026.
