As shared by Harrison Gwamnishu, one Usman Nuhu, an officer attached to the Area Command in Effurun, Delta State, was captured in a widely circulated video unaliving a young man at close range.

According to the report, Usman Nuhu previously served with the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), formerly linked to the disbanded SARS unit, and has been associated with multiple allegations of extrajudicial killings. He was also posted to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Illah but was reportedly transferred due to repeated misconduct and excessive use of force.

It is now reported that he has been taken into detention. Although the video itself cannot be shared here, many have seen the disturbing footage.

Regardless of the allegation that the young man was armed, that alone does not justify a summary ex*****on. The determination of guilt and appropriate punishment lies strictly within the jurisdiction of a competent court of law, where every individual is entitled to a fair hearing.

While public confidence in the criminal justice system may be strained, the unlawful taking of life cannot be justified under any circumstance. Upholding the rule of law must remain paramount.

So many Nigerians have been spreading misinformation about what transpired in court yesterday involving VDM, Sowore, and BLord.

Firstly, Sowore’s press statement claiming that the judge has discontinued the case is simply not correct. The recusal of the judge is not a discontinuation, and it has nothing to do with any of the parties in that sense.

On VDM's part, he appeared visibly restless in court, then he later came out to say the issue is no longer about VDM v. BLord, but now a matter of pride between him and Sowore. That alone tells you how far things have drifted from the original issue.

As for the judge’s recusal, the exact reason remains unknown. It could be personal or procedural. However, one cannot ignore the possible effect of VDM’s video publicly vouching for the judge’s integrity. In a sensitive judicial setting, such statements, no matter how well intentioned; can place the court under unnecessary scrutiny and create an impression of bias in the eyes of the public.

At this point, what we are seeing is a shift. What began as a supposed fight for justice is gradually turning into a contest of ego and influence.

Nigerians will soon begin to see more layers unfold. But between the two, Sowore arguably has less at stake than VDM, who has built a public image around “integrity".

Clearly, this has moved from seeking justice to a display of “who has power and who can use it".

A classic case of becoming what one once criticized.

Any surprises? Not really.

Power intoxicates, and more often than not, it corrupts.

Over time, Nigerians have, by silence and inaction, enabled harassment and everyday illegalities.

I took First Bank of Nigeria to court for unlawfully debiting me N1,074, not because I couldn’t overlook it, but because I refused to normalise it. The amount is insignificant, even less than my weekly data subscription, but the principle is not. If such acts go unchallenged, they become policy.

In another matter, a client was defrauded of N2,400,000. Although the funds were eventually recovered, that is not where accountability ends. I remain committed to ensuring that those responsible are identified and made to face the full weight of the law. Restitution without consequences only invites repetition.

Nigeria is where it is today because too many people dismiss these infractions as trivial. They are not. Enforcing rights, no matter how small the breach; repairs the system. When people are held accountable, it creates deterrence. When they are not, it breeds impunity.

Take Anambra State as an example. The excesses of the so-called Udogachi operatives persist largely because victims rarely challenge them. Imagine if those assaulted members of the Kegite Club of Nigeria filed actions against the Anambra State Government for those abuses. The cost of defending such suits alone would force a rethink, they would invest more on legal Defence than recruitment of touts as security operatives.

Even in that my case, that N1,074 has already cost First Bank of Nigeria nearly N2 million in litigation expenses. That is what accountability looks like, it makes misconduct expensive.

Although Rivers State High Court held, quite astonishingly, that the bank “stole my money for my own good". That decision is now subject to appellate review, and I await the outcome at the Court of Appeal of Nigeria. When it comes positive, I'll most definitely tell the whole story and how courts most times abandons law and facts.

The message is simple: never ignore any infringement of your rights. No matter how small it appears, challenge it. A society where citizens consistently enforce their rights is one where institutions are forced to act right.

This is the utterly baseless and useless charge the Police proferred against a lawyer, Timothy Olaniyi for nothing more than standing as a guarantor in an employment contract.

There is no offence known to law in merely acting as a guarantor, yet he was unlawfully detained and subsequently dragged before the court on what can only be described as a malicious and ill conceived charge.

The same type of charge they wanted to file against me in 2024 because i asked them to provide an arrest warrant before taking a client.

The continuous weaponisation of criminal processes against citizens, especially legal practitioners; undermines the very foundation of justice and erodes public confidence in the system.

Yesterday, operatives of the Anambra State Security Network “Udogachi" stormed Peackastel Hotel in Awka, where the Kegite Club was holding its annual event. Reports indicate that they arrived heavily armed, disrupted the gathering, and proceeded to harass and brutalise members of the Kegite Club of Nigeria.

To the best of my knowledge, the Kegite Club is a nonviolent organisation with activities that are open and well known. There was nothing clandestine about the event. Yet, in a disturbing display that has become all too familiar, operatives of Udogachi, an outfit already gaining notoriety for targeting ordinary citizens; descended on the venue and unleashed force on harmless men and women.

While the exact trigger for this invasion remains unclear, what is not in doubt is the apparent unlawfulness and excessiveness of the action. Security agencies, regardless of their mandate, are bound by law and cannot operate outside its limits.

One would expect that the Kegite Club and its members would seek redress through legal channels, challenging this abuse and setting a precedent against such conduct. But experience suggests otherwise. More often than not, victims quietly absorb the damage, replace what was destroyed, and move on; thereby emboldening these unconstitutional acts and reinforcing a culture of impunity.

Take a look at these published bank accounts, if your own is there; kindly DM me so that I will tell you how to get it opened ASAP.

This Ademola A. Joshua of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has been on a bank account blocking spree since around 2022. Him, in conjunction with Ondo State Magistrate Court, Akure, has been exercising powers and harassing citizens unlawfully.

Recently, the Rivers State High Court held that this order is nothing but a worthless tissue paper, and that Section 25 of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Act, 2007 does not authorise the Corps to freeze accounts.

Ademola A. Joshua allegedly took bribes and resumed investigation and blocking of accounts even before the petition he allegedly influenced a nominal complainant to write was approved.

If your account is listed hereunder, know that it is this corrupt Civil Defence Officer. I don’t know how their system works or how to report such misconduct for administrative sanction, but such a person does not deserve to be a public servant.

I am calling on the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to investigate the activities of this official.

Another fake lawyer has been apprehended in Benin yesterday, he was found in possession of a Call to Bar certificate issued in 1993 by “Council of Legal Christian".

The rate grey-haired individuals are impersonating legal practitioners this days; an unsuspecting young lawyer could end up taking instructions from, or even working under, one of these impostors.😂

This profession is too critical to be left vulnerable to impostors.

At first glance, you might mistake it for sunlight reflecting off a surface; but look closer, it isn’t. It’s a lawyer’s gown, shimmering under the courtroom in a way it never should.

The lawyer’s robe is not just clothing; it is a symbol. A symbol of decorum, responsibility, and respect for the temple of justice.

Perhaps it’s time for lawyers to pay closer attention; not just to their arguments, but to the symbols they wear while making them.
