- who come from the communities they serve - deliver health promotion, peer support & education to empower individuals to take meaningful action that improves their own health & welfare & that of their communities. We run targeted health promotion, awareness raising & community engagement programmes on behalf of public sector organisations, healthcare providers, medical researchers, charities & businesses. With operations in the UK & across sub-Saharan Africa & a large & growing membership of community heroes, we offer local & international organisations exciting opportunities to achieve meaningful & scaleable social impact. Every community has the power to cut its levels of poor health, disability and death by changing its attitudes and behaviours around health and well-being. For instance,
A culture of voluntary blood donation would cut the number of women dying during or shortly after labour, prolong the lives of sufferers of sickle cell disease and increase the survival rate of cancer patients. Greater understanding and acceptance of people with mental health issues would slash rates of depression and suicide. Improvements in sexual and reproductive health behaviours would reduce the incidence of HIV/AIDS and infertility. Deferring sexual debut and eradicating child marriages would combat health risks associated with teenage pregnancies. Changes to diet and exercise would stem the tide of people developing type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure or Impaired Kidney Function. Action On Blood is a social enterprise with a vision of improving the health of communities around the world by transforming their cultural attitudes and behaviours to health and well-being. We do this by recruiting, nurturing and empowering an active and interactive network of peer advocates to impact their communities from within. As culturally-embedded individuals, they are uniquely skilled to navigate social nuances and engender trust. We provide them with expert coaching and access to local and international resources, so that they can tackle the sensitive issues and challenge the strongly-held positions of their different communities. And because we know that saving the world can be difficult at times, we ensure all our peer advocates, wherever they are in the world, feel part of a supportive network of like-minded heroes.
