OUR PANEL AT THE 'BIG DATA' EVENT AT THIS YEAR'S Social Media Week LAGOS

Market and policy trends are driving Nigeria into the era of ‘Big Data’ as humongous electronic trails are generate from growth in the number of users and diversity of use, including from:

- The information that Nigerians consume online (online media)
- The products/services they purchase (e-commerce)
- How they pay for such products/services (e-payment); and
- By the by, how they use those products (Internet of Things).

Industry thought leaders will examine the issues arising from the tensions at the intersection of BIG DATA as economic assets and as human rights (privacy).

Date: Wed. February 26, 2020
Venue: NXT/Tech Stage, Landmark Center, Victoria Island.

LET'S TALK ABOUT NIGERIAN LOCAL CONTENT ACT

If you are attending the NAICE Conference of Society for Petroleum Engineers (SPE) this coming week, plan to attend the presentation by our partner Deji Olatoye of a paper titled 'IMPETUS AND IMPEDIMENTS IN THE NIGERIAN CONTENT LAW: A SABBATICAL REVIEW'.

It will be the first paper to be presented in the 'Host Country Content in Africa' session.

Date & Time: Wednesday, 8th August 2018 at 2.00 - 4.00pm

Venue: 'Australia Room', Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Since the 1990s, Nigeria's policy thrust on 'Local Participation' has changed tack from emphasis on local equity participation (indigenisation) to the domestication of economic activities (domiciliation). Deji's paper discusses how the content of the Nigerian Oil & Gas Industry Content Act, 2010, sustains this policy preference in the four core areas of 'Local Content', that is: (1) Procurement (ii) Employment and Training (iii) Transfer of Technology; and (iv) Equity Participation. Besides, what is the impact of the quality of legal draftsmanship on the effectiveness of the 2010 Act in evincing the intention of the Legislature and sustaining Nigeria's policy choices?

Deji will be returning to the NAICE stage after a 5year hiatus. It will be his third presentation at the prestigious conference since 2011.
