As a family lawyer, I see the devastating effects of broken families every day. Yet, there is a different kind of brokenness that often receives less attention t
he destruction that violence, insecurity, and kidnapping bring upon families.
The recent abduction of school children and teachers in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, is not just a criminal act; it is an assault on families, childhood, education, and the collective peace of our society.
Behind every abducted child is a mother who cannot sleep.
Behind every missing teacher is a family living in fear and uncertainty.
Behind every act of kidnapping are emotional scars that may remain long after the victims return home.
No parent sends a child to school expecting to negotiate for their safety. Schools should be places of learning, growth, and dreams
not fear and trauma.
As a nation, we must understand that kidnapping does not only take people away; it tears families apart, shatters trust, traumatizes children, and leaves lasting psychological wounds on parents and communities.
Today, my thoughts and prayers are with the affected children, their families, the teachers, and the entire Ogbomoso community.
May the victims be returned safely.
May justice prevail.
May our leaders and security agencies rise to the urgency of this moment.
Because when a child is kidnapped, an entire family is held hostage by fear.
And when families are broken, society itself suffers.
