Do you know how to process a Change of Business Name?
A client came into my DM recently to ask exactly that.
In my usual polite manner, I replied, "Yes, of course! That is one of the many reasons Sarahzlegal is here to serve you."

He replied, "Fantastic! What's the cost and what's the procedure?"
I explained that a Change of Business Name is a Post CAC Registration service processed through an accredited CAC agent portal. I also let him know that if his business was due for CAC Annual Returns filing and he hadn't been filing, we might need to regularize that first. So, I asked him to send me the company details so I could assess the status.
A few minutes after sending the documents, he asked,
"Is it possible for me to do it myself?"
I said, "Of course. If you know your way around the CAC portal, there's nothing stopping you from doing it yourself."
He went silent for a few minutes...
Then he sent me a screenshot and asked,
"What does Availability Code mean, and how do I get that code on the Post Incorporation page?" 🤔
Hmmm...
People of God... should I still go ahead and teach him the entire process?
Should I start giving away years of craftsmanship and practical experience to someone who is neither a lawyer nor an accredited CAC professional? 😂
Well... I'm not feeling that generous in that area.
