Nigeria’s gas conversation is shifting, and the legal framework has to keep pace.

At the maiden edition of the Nigerian Gas Association Legal Forum 2026, our Sina Sipasi, Partner and Head of the Energy Practice, spoke on “Drafting Bankable Gas Agreements in 2026: Pricing, Take-or-Pay and Credit Risk.”

The discussion cut to the core of what makes gas agreements truly bankable, pricing realities, the enforceability of take-or-pay provisions, and practical approaches to managing credit risk in a way that supports investor confidence.

Alongside fellow panellists Yemisi Awonuga, Anthony Ezeamama, Olawunmi Olatunji, and Eguono Soewu, the session contributed meaningfully to ongoing conversations around building a commercially viable gas sector.

With Raymond Ofagbor, Senior Associate, and Wendy Nwogu, Associate, also in attendance, AELEX continues to engage where legal structure meets commercial reality.

Nigeria’s oil and gas sector is entering a new phase, but what does the latest policy direction mean in practice?

In this article, our Raymond Ofagbor and Brilliant Oziwo examine the Presidential Executive Order on Safeguarding Federation Oil and Gas Revenues and Providing Regulatory Clarity (2026) and its far-reaching implications for the industry.

The Order introduces notable shifts, from the redirection of key petroleum revenues to the Federation Account to new approaches aimed at improving regulatory coordination and oversight. It also raises important questions around how these changes interact with existing provisions under the Petroleum Industry Act and what this means for stakeholders across the value chain.

What does this mean for investment structures, regulatory certainty, and the future of key funding mechanisms in the sector?
