Bridging the Legal Knowledge Gap: The "Law in Native Languages" Initiative
As many of you may already know, I am a lawyer—a Legal Practitioner and Consultant specializing in litigation and legal advisory services. With extensive experience in litigation, case management strategies, and providing legal advice across various practice areas such as ICT Law, Corporate and Commercial Law, Property and Real Estate Law, Energy and Environmental Law, Arbitration, and Banking and Finance, I’ve observed a significant gap between the laws we practice and what people actually know or think about them.
A large portion of our population lacks a clear understanding of the laws that regulate their personal and business activities daily. This realization led us, at Amofin Solicitors, to launch an initiative aimed at bridging this knowledge gap. We call this initiative the "The Law in Native Languages Project."
What Is the Project About?
The project is centered around making legal knowledge both available and accessible to the public. We believe that legal knowledge cannot be considered truly accessible if the majority of people it governs do not fully understand it in the language it is presented. This is the gap we are addressing.
Through this project, we are discussing crucial legal rights and information that everyone should be aware of—in the native languages spoken by the majority of people. We have started with Hausa and Yoruba languages, where we are educating and enlightening people about their legal rights and obligations hoping to expand soon.
Currently, we are producing short video clips—each lasting no more than 5 to 6 minutes—presenting essential legal information in these languages. These videos are shared across our social media platforms, with the hope of reaching unserved and underserved communities and people at the grassroots level. Our content is available on YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter. Since the launch, the project has received tremendous support and positive feedback.
How Can You Assist?
We are not asking for money or donations. All we request is that whenever you come across any of our videos, you kindly share them with your network and across any channels you have access to. This will help us reach the people who truly need this information.

While it’s often said that ignorance of the law is no excuse, the reality is that many people remain unaware of the laws that govern them. Through this project, we are doing our best to provide accessible legal knowledge, ensuring that ignorance of the law is no longer a barrier, but a choice.
