We are pleased to share that our Senior Associate, Jason Lim Jie Sheng, has contributed an article to the inaugural Young Commonwealth Lawyers Newsletter by the Commonwealth Lawyers Association, focusing on Artificial Intelligence and the Law.

In his article, “The Algorithm as Expert: Can AI Testify in Court?”, Jason explores the legal questions surrounding whether AI can occupy the role of an expert witness, including considerations under the Malaysian Evidence Act and comparative jurisprudence.

The inaugural newsletter brings together contributions from young lawyers across the Commonwealth examining the evolving legal, regulatory and professional issues arising from artificial intelligence.

Our Senior Associates, Edwin Raj and Jason Lim Jie Sheng, were recently invited to speak at the MAVMA Seminar on Veterinary Regulatory Insights 2026, organised by the Malaysian Veterinary Medical Association (MAVMA).

As a panel firm for MAVMA, MahWengKwai & Associates is pleased to support the Association and its members on legal and regulatory matters affecting the veterinary profession.

At the seminar, Edwin Raj shared his insights on defamation, while Jason Lim Jie Sheng spoke on veterinary negligence, highlighting key legal considerations relevant to veterinary practitioners and their practices.

Team MWKA recently attended the launch of the ASEAN Young Lawyers’ Alliance (AYLA) in Kuala Lumpur, graced by the Minister of Digital, YB Gobind Singh Deo.

The launch marks an important step towards strengthening connections among young lawyers across ASEAN, while fostering professional development, knowledge-sharing and closer engagement within the legal community.

As ASEAN becomes increasingly interconnected, initiatives such as AYLA provide a valuable platform for the next generation of lawyers to build meaningful professional networks, exchange ideas and contribute to the region’s evolving legal and digital landscape.

We are pleased to share that our Partner, Agalya, was quoted in Malay Mail’s recent report on the Court of Appeal's decision recognising a Seremban-born girl as a Malaysian citizen.

The decision highlights the importance of protection of fundamental rights for abandoned children, particularly in cases involving statelessness and citizenship issues.

The Court of Appeal overturned the High Court's decision and granted the declarations sought by the Appellants, that their daughter is a citizen of Malaysia by operation of law.
