MBKS Must Act Immediately to Clear Overgrown Grass Along Jalan Sherip Masahor
南市须立即清理瑟里玛沙和路疯长的杂草
Since July this year, the responsibility for grass maintenance along Jalan Sherip Masahor has been taken over by the MBKS from JKR. However, despite taking over this responsibility, MBKS has failed to properly maintain the grass along this stretch of road.
I have been made to understand that, to date, MBKS has yet to appoint a contractor to carry out the grass-cutting works. This is simply unacceptable. The grass along Jalan Sherip Masahor has now grown to an estimated three to four feet high, creating a serious obstruction to motorists and posing a clear road safety risk.
The problem is particularly serious at junctions and turning points, where motorists are unable to properly see oncoming traffic because their line of sight is blocked by the overgrown grass. They are therefore forced to move their vehicles beyond the white line just to get a better view of approaching vehicles. In doing so, their vehicles may protrude into the path of oncoming traffic, creating a potentially dangerous situation.
This is not merely an issue of cleanliness or aesthetics. It is a road safety issue. MBKS should not wait for an accident to happen before taking action. Once the council has accepted responsibility for maintaining the road reserve, it also has a responsibility to ensure that the area is properly maintained and does not endanger road users.
I therefore call upon MBKS to immediately arrange for the grass along Jalan Sherip Masahor to be cut, particularly at junctions and areas where visibility is affected. If there is currently no contractor appointed, MBKS should find an interim solution rather than allowing the situation to deteriorate further while waiting for a procurement process to be completed.
MBKS cannot simply take over the maintenance from JKR and then leave residents and motorists to deal with the consequences. I urge MBKS to act quickly and ensure that this basic maintenance work is carried out before someone gets hurt.

自年7月起，工程局（JKR））已将瑟里玛沙和路（Jalan Sherip Masahor）一带的割草工作移交给古晋南市市政局（MBKS）负责。然而，在接手工程后，南市至今还没有妥善进行割草工作，导致路旁杂草越长越高。
据我所知，截至目前为止，南市还未委任承包商负责有关割草工作，这是令人无法接受的。
目前，相关路段的一些杂草据估计已长到3至4尺高，不只影响道路两旁的市容，也阻碍驾驶人士的视线，对他们出路安全构成一定的危险。
尤其是在一些路口及转弯处，由于杂草长得过高，驾驶者无法看清迎面驶来的车辆，以致有些驾驶者被迫把车辆驶过白线，以取得更好的视野。这么一来，车辆可能会驶入对面车道，增加与迎面车辆发生碰撞的风险。
这已经不是环境卫生或道路美观的问题，而是关乎道路使用者的生命安全。
南市不应该等到发生交通事故后才来行动。既然市政局已经接手有关路段的割草工作，就有责任确保相关路段获得妥善维护，而非让道路使用者暴露在不必要的风险中。
因此，我呼吁，南市立即割除瑟里玛沙和路一带的杂草，尤其是各个路口、转弯处以及所有已影响驾驶人士视线的路段。
如果目前是因为尚未委任承包商而无法展开割草工作，南市也应该自行先割草，而不是以委任程序尚未完成为由，让杂草继续疯长。
南市不能在从工程局手中接管割草工作后，让居民及道路使用者自行承担杂草疯长可能带来的潜在风险。
有鉴于此，我再次呼吁，南市尽快采取行动，在可能发生意外之前，先把这项最基本的维护工作做好，保障所有驾驶人士及道路使用者的安全。
