We welcome our new interns! They will be with us throughout the month of September 2020. From left to right, Lucas, Aleena, Katherine and Ming Er. Their respective write-ups are as follows:-

Lucas:
"I am currently a law graduate seeking to gain first-hand exposure from working under the firm while waiting for the CLP exam this December. As a true Malaysian, I am able to mix and match different languages such as English, Malay, Mandarin, Cantonese, and a little bit of Hokkien. Work aside, I love travelling and playing badminton, so do let me know if you are free to join me. Also, I enjoy singing and listening to different genre of music too, like how I am flexible in venturing into various aspects of law and even opportunities. I am looking forward to working and learning together with this team throughout this internship! Thank you in advance for your patience and time."

Aleena:
"A fresh Law graduate who enjoys pursuing the side-quests and seeking discomfort. I strive to be involved in various global experiences and aspire to be a forerunner of revolutionary impacts through my contributions. My hobbies and interests include journalism, youth activism, photography and cinematography where I enjoy areas involving sustainability, human rights, environmental and community injustice as well as social sciences. A full-time travel, music, dance and horse-riding enthusiast in the midst of figuring it all out but while I’m at it, best I learn and enjoy it! Continuing to trust the process and embrace our digital age!"

Katherine:
"I have recently completed my Year 2 of the Bachelors of Laws on the UK Transfer Program at Brickfields Asia College. After completing my third year in the UK, I hope to complete my BPTC and obtain my Masters in Law. My area of interest to pursue includes Commercial disputes and Taxation. I am most passionate to seek upcoming opportunities such as mooting and debate competitions which I have participated in the last few years. I strongly believe that where there are challenges, there is always an opportunity. I am most grateful for the opportunity to intern at Messrs. Choo Dee Wei and I look forward to meeting new people & learning from this new experience!"

Ming Er:
"Defined myself as a spontaneous type rather than a long term planner. Once I decided to jump out of my comfort zone,I will strive towards excellence and make sure that I keep the right attitude in everything I do. For me, it’s either do it right or don’t do it at all.
Personality wise, I love making friends and being around people but I am absolutely comfortable with spending time alone or with my spoilt pet dog. I don’t mind shopping or catching a movie alone, in fact they’re another way of fun. Putting work aside, I really enjoy working out, both cardio and weights, and pretty much every outdoor activities. Other than that, I love travelling but like I said,I’m not a good planner so I need buddies; and the best feeling would be playing piano to myself when I’m home alone. A fan of Netflix for being my constant companion for lunch and basically the best investment I made during MCO. Starting an internship definitely changes the flexibility of time that I used to have but I can’t wait to know how working life in Messrs CDW is going to be!

30/08/2020

We from Messrs. Choo Dee Wei would like to wish everyone a Happy Independence Day.

We hope everyone stay safe and united as a nation during this unprecedented time.

Welcoming our new interns for the month of August 2020. From left to right, Vee Cheen, Evon and Xu-Yin. Below are their prepared brief write-ups:-

Vee Cheen
I love playing with animals and watching Netflix. I like to meet and work with new people because there is always something new that I could learn from the others. Staying in my comfort zone is the best feeling ever but dragging myself out of it has been nothing short of rewarding.

Evon
Overtime, I question which part of myself should I write when it comes to short monologues. Should I write about the part of me that stayed up 2 weeks straight before law school started, binge-watching “How To Get Away With Murder” just to have a glimpse of what the law life will be like, only to find out that it was nothing like that? Or should I write about the “me” that has an extremely soft spot for the weak, because I think more help should be given to vulnerable? As a 19-year-old now, I still haven’t figured out which part of “me” should I share. However, I want to hold on to every opportunity and explore all possibilities that lie ahead me to gather more parts of “me” in the future.

Xu-Yin
Born in 1999 - A caffeine dependent life-form. Currently in my UKT LLB Year 1 and trying to figure out different things in life. Defined myself as a spontaneous, self-motivated, confident and super down to earth individual. I speak fluent Mandarin, English, Malay languages but best at mixing all three. My hobbies are reading, baking and probably going to pubs when Ms.Covid hasn’t take us down… I’m really thankful that I’ve been given a chance to intern with CDW and I hope I can survive from paper cuts!

On 24.7.2020, we organised our simulated trial for the interns. From the associates, 2 were "witnesses" and 1 was "judge". The interns prepared witness statements and did the usual examination-in-chief, cross-examination and re-examination of the "witnesses". Essentially we ran through the basics of trial and had the session recorded. The recorded session is solely for the interns to watch and improve upon their advocacy skills.

Introducing the interns for July 2020. They were asked to write a brief introduction about themselves. From left to right:-

Fathinah Nisriina

I'm an Aquarius so in my free time, I like to read conspiracy theories and random facts. Also I like spicy food. That aside, I've recently completed my second year of LLB, and am still unsure of which branch of the law to pursue. Though I've always been interested in international matters and human rights. I'm exploring my options at the moment and am hoping to gain as much experience and knowledge here.

Yuki Lim

I am an individual who is dedicated and conscientious, never take opportunities for granted and give my absolute all into everything I endeavor to do-except my diet, that can always start tomorrow! I enjoy travelling and always love to find out how the legal system of other countries work along the way. I have recently completed year 1 of LLB and I am excited but a little nervous for more adventures to come in the future; strive to be positive and an asset to any team. I hope to be given a chance to make a difference and give back to society with my career in the legal profession someday.

Melissa Cheok

Over the years, I’ve grown deep interest in sustainable fashion as well as human rights and environmental issues. I’m actually enthralled that all three of those are interconnected. As a recent law graduate, I’m excited for this new endeavor and to learn more.
