Former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s lawyer Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad today told the High Court that a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer had allegedly attempted to intimidate him and tarnish his reputation as a lawyer, based on the officer’s MACC colleague’s police report.

Amer said the police report lodged yesterday had named him and referred to the ongoing trial, and referred to an alleged classified document that Muhyiddin’s lawyers had wanted to be included as evidence in the trial.

“It’s clearly an attempt at intimidation,” he said. “But I’m not intimidated, they drew first blood and I will repay them with no quarters.”

Amer accused Mazery of trying to tarnish his reputation and trying to mislead the public via the police report’s claim that the document is not related to Muhyiddin’s trial, describing it as an “underhanded tactic” by a witness who was still testifying in court.

The alleged classified document was the statement that MACC had recorded from Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad during investigations.

Amer told the High Court that he is considering various legal action: “I will not exclude the possibility of lodging a report against the appropriate person including the IO for making false report, contempt of court and any other legal action. I reserve all those rights.”

Mazery apologised to Amer and explained the police report made by his MACC colleague was only intended to ensure that there had been no leaks of classified information.

Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad, counsel for Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, issued a statement for and on behalf of the legal team in respect of the police report lodged on 14 September 2026 and the subsequent news reports concerning the use, in an ongoing criminal trial, of a witness statement recorded under section 53(3) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.

According to the statement, the document was obtained through proper and lawful channels. It was not stolen, leaked, unlawfully procured or obtained through any clandestine means. It formed part of the documents disclosed pursuant to section 51A of the Criminal Procedure Code in separate criminal proceedings, and was among the documents which the Prosecution itself had released and disclosed.

The statement also explains that the document subsequently came into the defence team’s possession through the legal team involved in those proceedings, in the ordinary course of legal practice. Accordingly, the police report is false in the sense that it seeks to suggest that the document was improperly or unlawfully obtained.

The statement emphasises that significantly, the MACC did not even approach the defence team to ascertain or verify the source from which the document was obtained. Instead, a police report appears to have been lodged on an assumption, without first making any inquiry of the defence team as to the provenance of the document. In those circumstances, the MACC appears to have jumped to a conclusion before establishing the relevant facts.

According to the statement, such conduct is capable of interfering with the proper administration of justice and, depending on the circumstances, may give rise to serious issues including contempt of court.

15 September 2026: A prosecution witness in Muhyiddin Yassin’s corruption trial has apologised to the former Prime Minister’s lawyer, Amer Hamzah Arshad, in the High Court for lodging a police report against him yesterday.

Amer said the report was an attempt to tarnish his reputation and intimidate him.

“The conduct of lodging this report and mentioning my name, trying to tarnish my reputation and giving false information that the report or the document has nothing to do with (Muhyiddin’s) case, was an attempt to mislead the public and the authorities, and a form of intimidation.

“I will not exclude the possibility of lodging a report against the appropriate person, including the investigating officer, for making a false report, contempt of court and any other legal action,” he said.

Amer said the defence obtained the document from the legal team representing Adam Radlan and would not have used improper channels to obtain it.

Peguam kepada Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim menafikan anak guamnya memilih atau berkeras untuk memakai baju lokap berwarna ungu serta bergari ketika dibawa ke mahkamah hari ini.

Peguamnya, Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad berkata, pihaknya amat terkejut dengan kenyataan SPRM yang didakwa menyatakan Abdul Azeez memilih atau berkeras untuk memakai pakaian lokap dan gari ketika hadir di mahkamah.

Untuk mengelakkan sebarang kekeliruan, katanya, Abdul Azeez berada dalam tahanan PDRM sepanjang tempoh berkenaan, manakala pakaian lokap dan gari tersebut adalah berkaitan dengan tempoh tahanan polis berkenaan.

Dalam keadaan sedemikian, sebarang dakwaan bahawa Abdul Azeez secara sukarela memilih untuk tampil dalam keadaan tersebut adalah tidak benar dan memberikan gambaran yang mengelirukan mengenai keadaan sebenar ketika beliau dibawa ke mahkamah.

Bekas pengerusi Tabung Haji, Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, mengaku tidak bersalah di Mahkamah Sesyen Kuala Lumpur pagi ini atas satu pertuduhan salah guna kuasa mengikut Seksyen 23(1) Akta Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia (SPRM) 2009.

Peguam Amer Hamzah Arshad yang mewakili Abdul Azeez memohon mahkamah menetapkan jumlah jaminan pada kadar munasabah dan tidak terlalu tinggi kerana tujuan jaminan hanya untuk memastikan kehadiran tertuduh ke mahkamah, bukannya menghukumnya.

Amer Hamzah turut memohon agar pasport antarabangsa anak guamnya tidak ditahan atas alasan tiada bukti menunjukkan Abdul Azeez berisiko melarikan diri, selain terdapat keperluan mendesak untuknya ke luar negara bagi urusan perniagaan.

Dia berkata Abdul Azeez telah disiasat sejak 2018 dan beliau memberi kerjasama sepenuhnya kepada pihak SPRM sepanjang siasatan.

Sehubungan dengan itu, pihak pembelaan mencadangkan jaminan tidak melebihi RM500,000 berserta syarat tambahan Abdul Azeez melapor diri di pejabat SPRM Kuala Lumpur setiap tiga hingga empat bulan sekali.

Hakim kemudiannya membenarkan Abdul Azeez diikat jamin RM450,000 dengan dua penjamin warganegara tempatan berserta syarat tambahan melapor diri di pejabat SPRM Kuala Lumpur setiap tiga bulan sekali sehingga kes selesai.

Former Lembaga Tabung Haji chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim did not choose to appear in court wearing a purple lock-up shirt and handcuffs on Wednesday, his lawyer Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad said.

“… our client’s appearance in the purple lock-up attire and handcuffs during the subsequent MACC proceedings was not a matter of his personal choice,” he said.

Amer said he was “flabbergasted” by a statement attributed to the MACC suggesting that Abdul Azeez had chosen or insisted on wearing the lock-up attire and handcuffs.

“Any suggestion that our client voluntarily chose to present himself in that manner is incorrect and gives a misleading impression of the circumstances in which he was brought before the court,” the lawyer said.

Amer said Abdul Azeez reserves all his rights, including taking legal action against anyone who creates, publishes or disseminates what he described as a false or misleading account of the circumstances surrounding his appearance in court.

Former Tabung Haji chairman Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim claimed trial in the Sessions Court to a charge of abusing his position to obtain gratification in the form of a chairmanship and perks at another company.

During mitigation, the prosecution did not object to bail but sought a sum of RM1 million with two sureties.

Lawyer Amer Hamzah Arshad, who represented Azeez, said the amount was excessive, and that his client “knew the charge was coming” when he was arrested last month.

“He (Azeez) could have absconded if he intended to do so. Instead, he called us (lawyers) to defend him,” he said.

The court granted Azeez bail of RM450,000 with two sureties and ordered him to report to the MACC office here once every three months.

Former Lembaga Tabung Haji chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim was slapped with one charge of graft linked to construction company Putrajaya Perdana Bhd on Wednesday.

Judge Azura set bail at RM450,000 with two sureties and for the accused to report to MACC offices in KL every three months.

The prosecution had initially asked for bail to be set at RM1 million with additional terms, given the severity of the offence.

Defence counsel Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad argued that the amount was too high and cited his client’s cooperation with the authorities over the many years of investigations.

“This is not something new. It started as early as 2017, and he has been cooperating with investigators since 2018, 2019,” Amer Hamzah said, adding that his client was not a flight risk.

He asked for bail to be set at not more than RM500,000.

Former Tabung Haji chairman Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim is expected to be released this evening as his remand period was not extended, his lawyer Amer Hamzah Arshad says.

He said the police’s application to extend Azeez’s remand period for another three days to assist in the investigation under section 420 of the Penal Code was rejected.

“Our side strongly objected to the remand extension application on grounds that our client is always ready to cooperate fully with the police at any time, if needed,” Amer said when met by reporters.

Azeez and two former Tabung Haji officers were remanded for two days to assist the investigation into a fraud case related to Tabung Haji hibah payments.
