If you are a foreign investor looking at property in Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit, Los Cabos or another coastal destination, the key is understanding how the acquisition should be structured before you commit capital.
Mexican Law restricts direct foreign ownership within 50 km (approx. 31 miles) of the coastline and 100 km (approx. 62 miles) of international borders, but allows foreigners to use and benefit from residential property in these areas through a bank trust, or Fideicomiso, authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
These trusts may be established for up to 50 years and can be extended.
At Guevara Ramos Attorneys at Law, we help foreign investors understand the structure behind the property, review the transaction and coordinate the legal steps required before closing. 🏛️
Because when investing in Mexico, the property matters, but the structure protecting your investment matters just as much.
