We're looking for a lawyer to join our Baltic team and work hand in hand with our core FinTech team in Vilnius, advising financial institutions, payment and e-money institutions, FinTech companies and crypto-asset service providers on Latvian and EU regulation.

What you'll work on:
🔹 licensing and regulatory approvals before Latvijas Banka
🔹 payments, e-money, banking, investment services and crypto-assets (MiCA)
🔹 AML/CTF, sanctions, DORA, outsourcing and data protection
🔹 commercial, technology and service agreements
🔹 Baltic and cross-border mandates together with our teams in Lithuania and Estonia

📍 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀. 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀. For employers in :
🔹 October 1: new per diem rules. Without a collective agreement, per diems for trips shorter than 7 calendar days can no longer be reduced by internal policy.

🔹 November 1: Labour Code amendments. Higher late-payment penalties, clearer final settlement rules and more flexibility in employment terms for employees earning at least twice the national average wage.

🔹 December 31: every employer must have an objective, gender-neutral pay structure. There is no exception for small companies.

Also covered: the State Labour Inspectorate on wage deductions and higher accident insurance tariffs, draft rules on platform work and a EUR 300,000 GDPR fine over mishandled erasure requests, mostly from job candidates and former employees.

📍 𝐃𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐀𝐌𝐋 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞?
Estonia’s Finantsinspektsioon required the payment institution Wallester AS to remedy several deficiencies by 31 December 2026, including ensuring sufficient anti-money laundering (AML) staff. Payment and e-money institutions should check whether their staffing keeps pace with client numbers and transaction volumes.

At EU level, the Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA) has made crypto a strategic priority and called for an EU-level response to fragmented blockchain analytics.

To freeze its assets on that basis, authorities need solid evidence about that specific company. The nature of Russia’s political regime is not enough on its own. That is the message of the Court of Justice of the EU in a case referred by a Lithuanian court (Inter Rao Lietuva).

For banks, fintechs and crypto businesses, it is a useful benchmark for their own conclusions about Russia-linked clients.

📍 𝗘𝗨𝗥 𝟯 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿. Above that, a host country could ask your CASP for a local AML contact point.

Your MiCA license covers the whole EU. But if you operate in another Member State through local establishments that are not branches, that country may want someone on the ground. That person would represent your CASP before its supervisor and financial intelligence unit. The European Commission has now set the criteria.
