The Liberian National Bar Association (LNBA) is participating in an OHCHR-supported study visit to Banjul, The Gambia, from September 28โ30, 2026, under the theme โFrom the Peace Table to the Courtroom: Liberian Women Shaping Peace, Truth and Accountability.โ The LNBA is represented by its National President, Cllr. F. Juah Lawson, as part of a multi-stakeholder Liberian delegation.
The study visit brings together representatives from Liberiaโs justice, gender, legal, civil society, media and youth sectors to learn from The Gambiaโs experience with womenโs participation in peacebuilding, transitional justice and accountability.
The delegation is engaging with Gambian women human rights defenders and womenโs rights organizations involved in the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) and the Special Tribunal, while also examining approaches to gender-sensitive justice mechanisms.
For the LNBA, the visit provides an opportunity to share Liberiaโs experience in advancing accountability and the rule of law, including the Associationโs role in advocating for a War and Economic Crimes Court and its engagement in legal aid, public legal education and professional capacity building.
The exchange is also intended to strengthen institutional partnerships and generate lessons that can contribute to Liberiaโs ongoing transitional justice process.
