In conjunction with National Legal Aid Day, observed on 6 July, the Legal Aid Commission of Sri Lanka will conduct a Legal Aid Clinic on 4 July 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the High Court premises, Hulftsdorp, Colombo 12.
Members of the public may obtain free legal advice on any legal matter, regardless of their income level.

⚖️ Access to justice should be within reach for everyone.

Through a series of legal aid and awareness clinics held across , , and , the European Union in Sri Lanka and the Maldives funded Support to Justice Sector Project ( ) supported all 16 Divisional Secretariats in the Puttalam District, reaching over 450 beneficiaries.

The clinics provided legal information, advice and referrals on issues including land and property matters, housing and resettlement, compensation and relief entitlements, civil documentation, labour concerns, social services and protection issues, including for communities affected by Cyclone .

A key feature of the initiative was its strong focus on accessibility and inclusion. Through sign language interpretation services and tailored support, persons with disabilities were able to access legal information and engage directly with service providers.

Bringing together the Legal Aid Commission of Sri Lanka, Community Mediation Boards, Debt Conciliation Board, the National Authority for the Protection of Victims of Crime and Witnesses, government institutions and psycho-social service providers, the clinics enabled communities to access a range of legal, administrative and support services through a single platform.

Implemented through , funded by the European Union in Sri Lanka and the Maldives, in partnership with the Ministry of Justice - Sri Lanka, and jointly implemented by United Nations Development Programme - UNDP & UNICEF Sri Lanka with Sarvodaya leading community-level implementation.

Strengthening access to justice means ensuring that communities can access information, services and support when they need them most.

The EU-funded Support to Justice Sector Project ( ) recently conducted a Know Your Neethi legal aid and awareness clinic in Mannar, reaching over 200 beneficiaries.

The clinic provided legal information, advice and referral services on compensation and relief entitlements, land and property matters, civil documentation, livelihoods and protection-related concerns. Awareness sessions on services available through the Legal Aid Commission of Sri Lanka, the National Authority for the Protection of Victims of Crime and Witnesses, and psychosocial support providers also helped strengthen awareness of available support and referral mechanisms among both community members and local officials.

Responding to the diverse legal, administrative and psychosocial needs of communities in Mannar, the clinic provided an integrated service platform. The participation of the five Divisional Secretariat Divisions, the District Secretariat of Mannar, as well as the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government and the Land Commissioner General Office strengthened access to information, referrals and support services.

A key feature of the clinic was its strong commitment to accessibility and inclusion, with trilingual services and sign language interpretation supporting the participation of diverse communities, including persons with disabilities.

This initiative is supported through the Support to Justice Sector Project ( ), funded by the European Union in Sri Lanka and the Maldives, in partnership with the Ministry of Justice - Sri Lanka and implemented by United Nations Development Programme - UNDP in Sri Lanka and UNICEF Sri Lanka, with Sarvodaya leading implementation at the community level.
