Cambodia Celebrates World IP Day 2026
On April 28, 2026, Cambodia marked World Intellectual Property Day in Phnom Penh under the theme “IP and Sports.” The celebration welcomed government leaders, development partners, international organizations, and private sector representatives, including Mr. Pheng Thea, Partner of Abacus IP Cambodia, whose presence reflected the importance of collaboration between public and private sectors in advancing Cambodia’s IP system.
H.E. Cham Nimol, Minister of Commerce, opened the ceremony, stressing that intellectual property is vital for Cambodia’s economic competitiveness. She emphasized its role in empowering businesses, protecting creative industries, and ensuring that investments in sports and related sectors are safeguarded. She highlighted ongoing efforts to modernize IP administration and raise awareness.
Following her remarks, H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, underscored how IP supports broadcasting rights, trademarks, patents, and designs in sports. He warned of challenges from piracy and counterfeit goods, urging stronger enforcement.
