They say charity begins at home... yet I’m sure this image is not new to some parts of our country. We talk about planting trees, but what about maintaining the environment we already have?

Planting is good, but preserving is greater. Let’s not undo with littering what we try to build with seedlings. Mazingira Day is not just about today, it’s about every single day we choose to be responsible custodians of our land.

Imagine Nairobi without Karura🤔
No fresh air. No peace. No green escape. Just concrete and smoke.

I walked through the heart of Nairobi dressed like a patient fresh out of hospital. Bandage on my head, hospital gown, placard in hand: .

Some people stopped. Some asked if I was okay. Some looked and kept walking.
And that’s the reality our environment is crying out for help, yet many of us scroll past, walk past, or hope “someone else will fix it.”

Some marched, some planted, some even went to jail because they believed Kenya’s green spaces are worth fighting for. 🌳✊🏽

But the question is: what are we doing as Kenyans?
Are we living out the spirit of Wangari Mathai fighting for what’s green, what’s life, what’s ours? Or will we let it all slip through our fingers while we look away? 🌍🌳

Karura is more than trees. It’s history, health, and hope. And it needs us.
