It was an honour to present at the Faculty of Law’s 12th Annual Symposium on Law, Governance and Society.

My presentation, “The Right to Privacy and the Data Protection Act in a Law Firm,” explored the practical implications of Jamaica’s Data Protection Act for legal practitioners, with particular emphasis on safeguarding client confidentiality, meeting ethical obligations, and implementing best practices in data governance within law firms.

I am honoured to have contributed to this important discussion and to engage with fellow members of the legal profession, academics, and students on issues that continue to shape the future of legal practice. Protecting client information is no longer simply good practice—it is a legal and professional imperative.

Today was the final day in a jury trial that lasted all week. The jury returned a unanimous verdict of not guilty vindicating the accused man who suffered for the last five years. His father wept openly all morning, while he sat anxiously awaiting his fate. Sometimes you just need one person to believe your story.

I want to commend Jaleel Smith and Samantha Henry two of my interns, who worked diligently in the matter. They were up most nights researching authorities and refining submissions. I had the privilege of teaching them Criminal Law, and now to have them work with the very law they were taught.
