We are proud to bring you our two-days long joint event with the University of Bologna, Department of Legal Studies. Under the theme of “Current Challenges in International Criminal Law”, we will be welcoming Associate Professor Emanuela Fronza from the University of Bologna and Judge Nicolas Guillou from the Kosovo Specialist Chamber, who is the Candidate of France for the Judge at the International Criminal Court.

The event will take place on 8-9 May 2023 in a hybrid modality by allowing in-person participation at the University of Bologna, and online participation via Microsoft Teams. The first day (8th May) is a seminar on the Future of International Criminal Justice where participants will explore the challenges of international courts with a focus on governance and criminal procedure while questioning the ideas of extending the scope of international crimes, using new investigative tools, and creating new forms of criminal liability.

The second day (9th May) is designed as an interactive workshop on the Challenges of Setting Up a New International Court and participants will follow the proposals of several academics and the resolution of the European Parliament to discuss how a new court could be set up for the crime of aggression within the scope of Ukraine, as well as the idea to create a new international court for ecocide.
