For anyone who thinks they're too old to train, to become stronger, to start their dream business, their dream life...

At age 5 his Father died.

At age 16 he quit school.

At age 17 he had already lost four jobs.

At age 18 he got married.

Between ages 18 and 22, he was a railroad conductor and failed.

He joined the army and washed out there.

He applied for law school he was rejected.

He became an insurance sales man and failed again.

At age 19 he became a father.

At age 20 his wife left him and took their baby daughter.

He became a cook and dishwasher in a small cafe.

He failed in an attempt to kidnap his own daughter, and eventually he convinced his wife to return home.

At age 65 he retired.

On the 1st day of retirement he received a cheque from the Government for $105.

He felt that the Government was saying that he couldn’t provide for himself.

He decided to commit su***de, it wasn’t worth living anymore; he had failed so much.

He sat under a tree writing his will, but instead, he wrote what he would have accomplished with his life. He realised there was much more that he hadn’t done. There was one thing he could do better than anyone he knew. And that was how to cook.

So he borrowed $87 against his cheque and bought and fried up some chicken using his recipe, and went door to door to sell them to his neighbours in Kentucky.

Remember at age 65 he was ready to commit su***de.

But at age 88 Colonel Sanders, founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) Empire was a millionaire.

Moral of the story: It's never too late to start all over.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, IT'S ALL ABOUT YOUR ATTITUDE. NEVER GIVE UP NO MATTER HOW HARD IT GETS.

You have what it takes to be successful. Go for it and make a difference.

Is IPC 498A misused against Indian men?

"Domestic violence is recognized in most countries as spousal violence and not a man on woman violence.....Fact that dual the numbers of men commit su***de compared to women."

Indian men facing domestic violence. The consequence and effect of this violence against men in India are largely emotional and psychological in nature. The physical irritation resulting from domestic violence also affects their lives and productivity but it is still more inclined towards the emotional problems which men face in India. Voice has been raised against the freedom and equality of women but we forget that men can be a victim of the same, unfortunately; It won’t be wrong to say that these sections work as the mirror to the way of thinking which the society carries.

Indian Penal Code 498A is a criminal law passed by Indian Parliament in 1983 which is defined as follows,

“Whoever, being the husband or the relative of the husband of a woman, subjects such woman to cruelty shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years and shall also be liable to fine. The offense is Cognizable, non-compoundable and non-bailable".

The situation of crime and abuse against men is in need of urgent attention and calling for serious consideration. It is now time that we should raise voice on this issue, and then only we’ll be talking about actual gender equality. India, family violence against men is almost legal as here is no provision in any law to protect a man, who faces violence from the wife or other female family members.

This situation is mainly due to patriarchal thinking in the society, that men are stronger than women and they can defend themselves with physical force. Its high time India keeps pace with the rest of the world and makes the laws alongside domestic violence gender neutral.

Save Indian Family Foundation, an organization working on men’s rights, has now approached MPs to submit a private member bill in the parliament to start the steps towards enacting a law for the protection of men from domestic violence. It is long overdue. If be, domestic violence is also recognized in most countries as spousal violence and not a man on woman violence.

The Family Health Survey which throws light on unprovoked violence in opposition to men by women is evident in the face. The fact that dual the numbers of men commit su***de compared to women, it should not be a surprise to ask for a law to protect men as such a law for women already exists. In fact, it would be preposterous in this age of gender equality, not to have such a law

How story of singing horse is applicable to lawyers profession?

As a very young lawyer, I suffered from the delusion that I knew the law and thought it should operate on the basis of what was written in the textbooks. I once watched my senior argue an obviously bad case in court, knowing well that the judge would laugh him out of court. Somehow my senior wangled an adjournment from the judge, and outside the court, he cackled at his great escape. I turned to a slightly older junior in the chamber and asked why my senior was so happy because the matter would so obviously be lost on the next occasion. My chamber mate looked at me pityingly and said: “Oh, you don’t know the singing horse story?”

In response to my puzzled look, he told me the story of a man who was being executed in response to a king’s orders. On the chopping block, he looked at the king and said, “O, king you may kill me, but you must know that I can make horses sing.” The king asked how he could do that. To this the man replied that he needed a year to train a horse. The king had him freed, and set him up in a house next to the royal stables and provided him a horse to train. The man’s friend asked him, “You know that there are no singing horses, why did you promise it to the king? What will you do now?” The condemned man replied, “A lot can happen in a year, I may die a natural death and so may the king; the king may not remain the king, a general amnesty for all may be announced, the king may change his mind about executing me anyway, and for all you know, the horse may actually sing. Let me enjoy this year that I have.”

Since that day, I have always been aware of the episodic nature of a lawyer’s work, which makes lawyers delay the inevitable in the hope that the morrow may yet bring about a change of circumstances that render the insoluble merely intractable.

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat high court permitted a 19-year-old Hindu girl to live-in with her Muslim boyfriend, who is just 20 years old and is currently ineligible for marriage.
While allowing this reunion to take place on the wishes of the girl in a remote town of Dhanera in the border district of Banaskantha, a bench of Justice Akil Kureshi and Justice Biren Vaishnav observed, "Our society puts considerable stress on the institution of marriage and its sanctity. Instances of live-in relationship are largely confined to metro cities and other urban centres. Despite this, we must recognize our legal limitation in forcing an adult person of sound mind to stay at a place she does not want. Correspondingly, we also must recognize that we do not have the power to prevent the girl who is 19 years of age and is of sound mind from exercising her choice and joining the petitioner (her boyfriend), if she so desires."

According to the case details, the boy and girl studied together in school and were in love since their school days. Neither is ready to change his/her religion and the only option left is to have their marriage registered under the Special Marriages Act. The girl is eligible for this as she is above 18, but the boy is not because he is not yet 21.
This limitation led them to notarize a 'maitri karaar' (a friendship agreement used in Gujarat to formalize live-in relationships) in July.
However, the girl's parents forcibly took her away in September. The boy, who is engaged in his family's readymade clothes business, approached the HC by filing a habeas corpus petition that his girlfriend was detained by her parents against her wishes and that she should be set free.
When the court issued notice, Banaskantha police brought the girl before the court, where she said that she and her boyfriend would get married as soon as he turns 21. She did not want to live with her parents. The court asked the boy to file an affidavit that he would marry the girl upon turning 21.
