MACT Srinagar Takes Suo Motu Cognizance of SC Directions’ Non-Compliance in Accident Claims
Srinagar// The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT), Srinagar, presided over by District & Sessions Judge Fayaz Ahmad Qureshi, has taken suo motu cognizance of the alleged non-compliance with Supreme Court directions on motor accident claim procedures.
The Tribunal observed that the absence of mandatory First Accident Reports (FAR), Interim Accident Reports (IAR) and Detailed Accident Reports (DAR) has delayed compensation to accident victims and created opportunities for touts and unauthorized agents to exploit claimants.
Noting that no FAR, IAR or DAR had been filed before MACT Srinagar in the last six months, the Tribunal directed that its order and relevant Supreme Court directions be circulated among the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, J&K, RTO Kashmir, insurance companies, the J&K Legal Services Authority and the J&K Judicial Academy for strict compliance, awareness and measures to curb the activities of touts in motor accident claim cases.
