Srinagar, May 16,2026: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar organized an awareness programme on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Victim Compensation Schemes of 2013 and 2019,road safety rules and responsible road safety behaviour and dowry prohibition act,at Girls hr sec school khanyar,under the able guidance of Mr. Haq Nawaz Zargar Chairman DLSA (Pr. Dist.& sessions judge)Srinagar with the objective of spreading legal awareness among the participants on important social and legal issues.
During the programme, ms.Jahanara ,Deputy LADC acted as Resource Person and delivered a detailed lecture on the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Victim Compensation Schemes of 2013 and 2019. The speaker highlighted the legal safeguards available for children, the mechanism for reporting offences, and the rights of victims to receive compensation and rehabilitation.
Ms.Sabiya Pro Bono lawyer sensitised the participants regarding road safety rules and responsible road safety behaviour. Emphasis was laid on adherence to traffic regulations, use of helmets and seat belts, avoidance of rash driving, and the importance of public awareness in preventing road accidents.
Ms.Safa,Assistant LADC, who also acted as Resource Person, spoke on the Dowry Prohibition Act and explained the legal consequences associated with the practice of dowry. The speaker urged the participants to work collectively towards eradication of this social evil and to promote dignity and equality in society.
The programme witnessed active participation from attendees, who appreciated the efforts of DLSA Srinagar in conducting awareness programmes on socially relevant legal issues. The organisers reiterated their commitment towards promoting legal literacy and awareness among the general public.

Srinagar, May 15,2026: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar organized an awareness programme on drug abuse at the Legal Literacy Club, Channapora,under the able guidance of Mr. Haq Nawaz Zargar Chairman DLSA (Pr. Distt. & Sessions Judge), Srinagar and overall supervision of Secretary DLSA, Srinagar, with the objective of sensitizing students about the harmful effects of substance abuse and the legal framework related to narcotic offences. The programme was conducted as part of the continuous awareness initiatives of DLSA Srinagar aimed at promoting a drug-free society and empowering youth through legal literacy.
The programme was attended by students, teachers and members of the Legal Literacy Club, who actively participated in the interactive session.
Speaking on the occasion, Adv. Syed Shabana panel lawyer DLSA Srinagar,highlighted the alarming rise in drug abuse among youth and elaborated upon the psychological, social and legal consequences associated with substance addiction. She stressed the importance of awareness, parental guidance and community participation in curbing the menace of drugs. She also informed the participants about the provisions of the NDPS Act and the availability of free legal aid services through DLSA Srinagar.
The resource person urged students to remain vigilant, adopt healthy lifestyles and contribute towards spreading awareness against drug abuse in society. The participants appreciated the initiative and expressed keen interest in such informative programmes in future as well.
DLSA Srinagar has been actively conducting awareness programmes across schools, colleges and communities to educate people about social and legal issues, including drug abuse prevention and access to justice.

Srinagar, April 14th, 2026: District Legal Services Authority Srinagar in collaboration with the Human Rights & Anti-Corruption Forum and AIDS Control Society today, organized an awareness programme on HIV/AIDS and the Rights of People Living with HIV (PLHIV), under the able guidance of Mr. Haq Nawaz Zargar Chairman DLSA (Pr. Distt. & Sessions Judge), Srinagar and overall supervision of Secretary DLSA, Srinagar at ADR Centre Srinagar with objective to spread awareness regarding prevention, treatment, stigma reduction, and legal rights of persons affected by HIV/AIDS.
During the session, Mr. Imtiyaz Khan, Assistant Director J&K AIDS Control Society, highlighted the legal safeguards and rights available to PLHIV under the HIV and AIDS (Prevention and Control) Act, including protection against discrimination in employment, education, healthcare, and access to public services. The participants were informed about the role of legal aid institutions in ensuring justice and support for vulnerable sections of society.
Ms. Sabiya Iqbal, Assistant Director J&K AIDS Control Society, delivered an informative session on the provisions of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (Prevention and Control) Act, 2017, highlighting the rights of Persons Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV) and the legal safeguards available under the Act. The speaker sensitized the participants about prohibition of discrimination in employment, education, healthcare, housing, and public services against PLHIV. Emphasis was also laid on confidentiality of HIV-related information, informed consent for HIV testing and treatment, and access to free healthcare and legal services. The participants were encouraged to spread awareness to eliminate stigma and ensure protection of the dignity and rights of affected persons in society.
The programme witnessed participation from DLSA Staff, Legal Aid Defense Counsels, Support Staff & PLVs. The programme concluded with an interactive session wherein participants raised queries regarding health awareness, confidentiality, and legal remedies available to PLHIV. The organizers reiterated their commitment towards creating awareness and promoting an inclusive and discrimination-free society through continuous legal literacy initiatives.

Srinagar 12-05-2026: Today the State Level performance Evaluation Team comprising of Worthy, Member Secretary JK LSA and Under Secretary (legal), conducted field based assessment of selected NALSA Schemes.
During the visit, the Worthy Member Secretary JK LSA interacted with the LSUC Members and acid attack survivors.
Discussions also focused on enhancing future coordination, organizing structured awareness programmes and improving outreach to ensure greater impact of legal literacy initiatives. Further emphasis was laid on improving coordination with para-legal volunteers for effective implementation of NALSA schemes & timely submission of monthly report for onward submission to LSA.
The visit concluded with a positive assessment of Legal Services Institution for their encouraging performance and potential for further development and plugging of gaps between legal services and potential benefecaries.

Srinagar, 11th May 2026: District Legal Services Authority Srinagar observed National Technology Day by organizing an awareness programme on the themes of Cyber laws and drug abuse awareness, under the able guidance of Mr. Haq Nawaz Zargar Chairman DLSA (Pr. Distt. & Sessions Judge), Srinagar and overall supervision of Secretary DLSA, Srinagar at Legal Literacy Club, Crescent Public School Hazratbal.
During the programme, Adv. Sabiya Kousar, Pro Bono Lawyer, delivered an insightful lecture on Cyber Laws, Cyber Crimes, online safety and responsible use of digital platforms. The students were made aware about various Cyber offences, preventive measures and legal remedies available to victims of Cyber Frauds and misuse of technology.
Ms. Sehar Nazir, Assistant LADC, also addressed the gathering and sensitized the students about the growing menace of drug abuse, its adverse effects on health and society, and the legal consequences associated with narcotic offences. The importance of staying away from drugs and adopting a healthy and disciplined lifestyle was emphasized during the session.
The programme witnessed active participation from students and faculty members, who appreciated the efforts of DLSA Srinagar in spreading legal awareness among youth. The event concluded with an interactive session where students raised queries regarding Cyber Safety and social issues.

Srinagar, May, 09, 2026 In a significant stride towards delivering timely and
amicable justice, the District Judiciary Srinagar, in collaboration with the District
Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar, successfully organized the 2nd National
Lok Adalat of the year 2026 at the District Court Complex Mominabad, Srinagar, and
at the Court of the Additional Special Mobile Magistrate/JMIC Pantha chowk. The
Lok Adalat was held under the able guidance of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjeev Kumar,
Judge, High Court of J&K and Ladakh and Executive Chairman, J&K Legal Services
Authority and overall supervision of Ms. Shazia Tabasum, Member Secretary, J&K
Legal Services Authority & Mr. Haq Nawaz Zargar, Principal District & Sessions
Judge/ Chairman, DLSA Srinagar, along with Secretary, DLSA Srinagar.
The Lok Adalat was inaugurated by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjeev Kumar,
Judge, High Court of J&K and Ladakh/Executive Chairman, J&K Legal Services
Authority. The inauguration ceremony was held in presence of Ms. Shazia Tabasum,
Member Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority, Mr. Haq Nawaz Zargar, Principal
District & Sessions Judge/ Chairman, DLSA Srinagar, and esteemed judicial officers,
members of the bar, Court & DLSA staff members of District Court Complex
Srinagar. A ceremonial Guard of Honour was presented by the Jammu and Kashmir
Police, marking a dignified and respectful beginning to the proceedings. Following
the guard of honour, a sapling was planted by the Chief Guest within the court
premises, as a gesture towards environmental protection and promotion of a greener
and cleaner environment.
The dignitaries visited and observed the functioning of various benches at the
District Court Srinagar, offering encouragement to litigants and reinforcing the ethos
of participatory justice.
Speaking on the occasion, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Judge, High
Court of J&K and Ladakh/Executive Chairman, J&K Legal Services Authority,
emphasized the transformative role of Lok Adalats in the justice delivery system,
stated “Lok Adalat is not just a mechanism for resolving disputes, it is a platform that
creates a win-win situation for all parties involved. It saves time, reduces litigation
costs, and fosters goodwill. I encourage the public to actively participate in this
initiative for peaceful, timely, and amicable settlements. Justice through Lok Adalats
strengthens the very foundation of participatory and compassionate justice.” Hon’ble
Mr. Justice Sanjeev Kumar, laid emphasis on disposal of substantial Civil, Criminal
and Matrimonial cases, through the medium of Lok Adalat
The Lok Adalat received an enthusiastic response from litigants, a testament to
the growing public trust in alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. A wide range of

cases, including civil matters, matrimonial disputes, criminal compoundable offences,
bank recoveries, and pre-litigation issues were taken up, with a significant number
being resolved on the spot.
To facilitate the amicable settlement of cases, 12 benches were constituted, in
whole District wherein the Bench where MACT claims were settled was presided
over by Mr. Adnan Sayeed (Spl Judge Anti Corruption CBI Cases Sgr) and Mr. Fayaz Ahmad Qureshi
(Presiding Officer, MACT, Court Srinagar) in which 58 cases were taken out of which 39 cases
were amicably settled & Rs:- 4,38,15,000/- was awarded as settlement amount and
cheques amounting Rs: 2,20,000,00/- were on spot distributed among claimants by
Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Judge High Court of J&K and Ladakh
(Executive Chairman, J&K Legal Services Authority), in presence of Mr. Haq Nawaz
Zargar Principal District & Sessions Judge Srinagar, Ms. Shazia Tabasum, Member
Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority, and other Ld. Judicial Officers of District
Court Srinagar.
By the concerted efforts of all presiding officers of all the courts,
cooperation rendered by the learned advocates and officers of various
government departments, insurance companies and banking institutions. A total
number of 72,337 cases were taken up by 12 benches in the district out of which
71844 cases were settled in the said Lok-Adalat.
An amount of Rs, 11,38,58,851/- (Eleven Crores Thirty Eight Lacs Fifty
Eight Thousand Eight Hundred Fifty One Only ) was awarded as settlement
amount in all cases including award of Rs4,38,15,000/- in 39/- MACT Cases.
The 2 nd National Lok Adalat of 2026 witnessed a huge participation of
officers/officials from different departments; litigants. The success of the 2nd
National Lok Adalat reflects the judiciary& #39;s commitment to resolving disputes through
mutual understanding and compromise. Such initiatives not only lessen the backlog of
cases in the courts but also strengthen the public’s faith in the legal system.

Srinagar, 07th May, 2026: An awareness programme was organised by District Legal Services Authority Srinagar at Government Higher Secondary School Nowhatta to spread awareness among students regarding important legal and social issues.
Ms. Tasneem Kausar, Deputy LADC, delivered an informative session on drug abuse and the legal framework related to narcotic offences. The speaker highlighted the ill-effects of drug addiction on youth and society and sensitized the students about the legal consequences associated with drug-related crimes.
Advocate Sofia Mudassir, Pro Bono, spoke on the Dowry Prohibition Act and free legal aid services. She informed the participants about the rights of women, legal remedies available against dowry-related offences and the importance of accessing free legal aid provided through legal services institutions.
Ms. Ayesha Showkat, Assistant LADC, delivered a lecture on the NALSA Legal Services to Disaster Victims Scheme, 2010, explaining the objectives of the scheme and the legal support available to victims affected by natural and man-made disasters.
The programme concluded with an interactive session where students actively participated and raised queries on various legal issues. The organizers emphasized the need for continuous legal awareness programmes to educate the younger generation about their rights and responsibilities.

Srinagar, 04th May, 2026: District Legal Services Authority Srinagar through its Legal Aid Clinic at Law Department, University of Kashmir, today organized an awareness programme on drug abuse, under the able guidance of Mr. Haq Nawaz Zargar Chairman DLSA (Pr. Distt. & Sessions Judge), Srinagar and overall supervision of Secretary DLSA, Srinagar at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar.
The programme aimed to sensitize students about the alarming rise of drug abuse and its detrimental impact on health, education, and society. Resource persons from the Legal Aid Clinic highlighted the causes and consequences of substance abuse, stressing the need for early awareness and prevention among youth.
The speakers also elaborated on the legal framework dealing with drug-related offences and the strict penalties prescribed under law. Emphasis was laid on the role of students in resisting peer pressure, adopting healthy lifestyles, and acting as ambassadors of awareness in their communities.

Srinagar, 01st May, 2026: In observance of International Labour Day, the Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) of the District Legal Services Authority Srinagar today organized a series of awareness programs across various slum areas of Srinagar district.
The initiative aimed at sensitizing labourers and economically weaker sections about their legal rights, welfare schemes, and the importance of safe and dignified working conditions. During the program, PLVs highlighted key aspects of labour laws, including minimum wages, prohibition of child labour, and access to free legal aid services.
Special emphasis was laid on educating workers about their rights against exploitation, workplace safety, and available grievance redressal mechanisms. The participants were also informed about the role of legal services institutions in ensuring justice for marginalized communities.
The PLVs actively interacted with residents, addressing their queries and distributing informational material to enhance awareness. The community members appreciated the initiative and expressed the need for more such outreach programs in underserved areas.
