A significant update for employees and employers! The EPFO wage ceiling has been increased from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 per month, effective 17 September 2026, expanding the coverage framework under the applicable EPF provisions.

Today, I had the opportunity to attend 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗱𝗜𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝘂𝗻𝗲, an insightful session focused on leveraging AI-powered recruitment and LinkedIn Hiring Assistant to identify quality candidates more effectively as per industry requirements.

The session was fabulous, practical and highly relevant to the current recruitment environment. It provided valuable insights into how technology can improve candidate sourcing, recruiter productivity and the overall hiring process.

The Ministry of Labour & Employment has clarified the wage basis for calculating bonus under Section 26 of the Code on Wages, 2019.

📌 Key Update:
If an eligible employee’s wage exceeds ₹7,000 per month, bonus will be calculated on the higher of:

✅ ₹7,000 per month
OR
✅ Applicable Central Government minimum wage

📅 Deemed Effective Date: 21st November 2025

This notification specifically determines the wage limit for bonus calculation and should be considered while reviewing payroll and statutory bonus calculations.

What does the Code on Wages, 2019 actually say?

As per 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟭𝟳(𝟮), wages due to an employee must be paid within two working days in cases of removal, dismissal, retrenchment, resignation or closure.

💰 What is covered?
* Basic pay & applicable allowances
* Overtime wages
* Other components forming part of wages
* Lawful deductions already made

❌ What is NOT necessarily covered under the 2-day timeline?
* Gratuity
* Leave encashment
* Bonus & incentives
* Reimbursements
* Other contractual dues/benefits

📌 Key Takeaway:
The 2-working-day requirement applies to wages due, not automatically to the entire Full & Final Settlement. Other terminal dues are governed by their respective laws, service rules, agreements and applicable timelines.
