In a gesture that could bring a huge relief to many young mothers practising as lawyers in the court, Hon'ble Justice G R Swaminathan of the Madras high court has written to the members of the Bar on Monday, permitting them to ask for specific time slots to argue their cases after informing the court officer in advance.
He has also adviced that such practioners should take minimum time and should submit case laws and citations relied upon by them in that particular case , a day earlier to the court officer.
However, he made it clear that this concession is available only to the independent practitioners. Those who are part of an office or a law firm cannot ask for a time slot for the benefit of their ‘male seniors.’
This would come to effect from July 5, Tuesday.
“Such persons can very well inform the court officer in advance and ask for specific time slots on one condition that they must prepare so well that they consume a minimum amount of time. They must pass on the dates and events, case laws on which they are going to rely, the propositions which they want to advance to the court officer a day earlier,”, the letter said.
