October 31: The Women and Child Social & Child Development Welfare Department (WCSCDWD), Pakyong District, organized a district-wide Plantation Drive on the theme “Ek Ped Beti Ke Naam” under the flagship scheme Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP). The initiative was conducted with the inspiring messages “Plant a Tree, Bless a Daughter,” “Save Daughters, Save Nature,” and “Ek Ped Beti Ke Naam - Let Both Grow Strong.”
The program was held under the guidance of Mrs. Dikit Lepcha, Deputy Director-cum-Social Welfare Officer, who also serves as the District Nodal Officer for the BBBP Scheme. The Plantation Drive was carried out in the premises of New Market ICDS Centre, Pakyong District, and simultaneously across various Gram Panchayat Units (GPUs) in the district.
On the occasion, DD-cum-SWO, also solemnized a pledge to save, educate, and support the girl child, urging all present to actively contribute towards the cause of gender equality and empowerment.
In her address, She spoke on the importance of creating awareness about the rights and well-being of the girl child and highlighted how the Government has been extending continuous support to girl child through various welfare schemes such as the Bahini Scheme, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, among others. She emphasized that such initiatives collectively aim to ensure the protection, education, and empowerment of every girl child in the state and across the nation.
The program was attended by Centre Administrator Ms. Chong Choki Bhutia, officials from the One Stop Centre, District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), and Social Welfare Inspectors from various BACs.
The event aimed to create awareness about the importance of valuing and empowering the girl child while promoting environmental conservation. The symbolic act of planting a tree in the name of every girl child represents a commitment to nurturing both our daughters and our environment with equal care and responsibility.
Participants from ICDS centres, girl child, women’s groups, and community members actively took part in the plantation, making the event both meaningful and impactful.
Through this initiative, the department reaffirmed its commitment to the dual cause of gender equality and environmental sustainability ensuring that as our daughters thrive, so does our planet.
