Where do unclaimed music royalties go?
Your songs may already be generating royalties.
The real question is: are you registered to receive them?
Over the last six episodes, we’ve explored the major royalty streams available to artists, including publishing royalties, performer’s royalties, neighbouring rights, sync licensing, and mechanical royalties.
This final episode explains what happens when those royalties are generated, but the rightful creator is not in a position to receive them.
In this episode, you’ll learn:
* What happens to unclaimed music royalties
* How copyright societies distribute royalties
* Why registration with IPRS and ISAMRA matters
* Why every songwriter, composer, lyricist, singer, and musician should complete their registrations
* The biggest mistake independent artists make when monetising their music
In FY 2024–25, IPRS distributed ₹608.8 crore in royalties and its membership crossed 17,000 creators. As of the date of this reel, ISAMRA has 2,033 registered members, while many singers and musicians whose performances are already logged are yet to become members.
This is the final episode of Money Your Music Is Already Making — Without You, a six-part series explaining the royalties, rights, and revenue streams available to Indian artists in simple language.
If you’re a singer, songwriter, composer, lyricist, producer, musician, independent artist, music manager, label, or simply interested in the music business, this series is for you.
