NAGPAL & ASSOCIATES® LLP was honoured to participate in All About Music, the tenth edition of India’s premier B2B music conference, held from 25 to 27 August 2026 at the Grand Hyatt, Mumbai.

The conference remains the country’s principal meeting point for creators, labels, publishers, collecting societies, platforms, and counsel working at the intersection of music, technology, and rights. Our presence there reflects the firm’s continuing commitment to Music Law, Entertainment Law, and Media Law — areas in which we advise artists, composers, rights societies, labels, platforms, and producers on copyright, royalties, licensing, contracts, and disputes.

Our Managing Partner, Sumit Nagpal, had the privilege of engaging with:

Mr Sanjay Tandon, Founder and Managing Director, ISAMRA (Indian Singers’ and Musicians’ Rights Association), on performer rights and collective management;

Mr Dilip Sen, music director, and Mr Leslee Lewis, composer and music director, on the practical realities facing composers and recording artists;

Mr Tarsame Mittal, founder of All About Music, on the conference’s role in convening the ecosystem;

Dr. Raghavender GR, former Registrar of Copyrights and a leading authority on Indian copyright law, on the continuing significance of the 2012 amendments and the challenges posed by new technologies; and a number of emerging composers and rappers whose work will shape the next generation of Indian music.

These conversations reaffirm a simple proposition: the growth of Indian music depends as much on clear rights, fair remuneration, and enforceable contracts as it does on talent and technology. That is the work our firm undertakes every day.

We thank the organisers of All About Music X for an exceptionally well-curated edition and look forward to continuing these discussions in practice.

Nagpal & Associates LLP recently acted for our esteemed client The Press Trust Of India Ltd.- PTI. India’s premier news agency, in a matter involving trademark infringement, passing off, and copyright violation.

An entity operating under the name Press Truth of India had adopted a mark identical/deceptively similar to our client’s well-known trademarks “PRESS TRUST OF INDIA” and “PTI”, including imitation of the distinctive trade mark, colour scheme, typography, and taglines. The infringing activities extended to unauthorised reproduction and dissemination of copyrighted audiovisual content on digital and social media platforms.

Upon issuance of a comprehensive cease-and-desist notice asserting rights under the Trade Marks Act, 1999 and the Copyright Act, 1957, the infringing party:

✔️ Acknowledged our client’s prior use and statutory rights
✔️ Ceased all infringing use of the impugned marks and trade identity
✔️ Deleted and permanently disabled all infringing social media handles and content
✔️ Undertook not to use, apply for, or claim rights in any mark identical or deceptively similar to “PTI / Press Trust of India”
✔️ Tendered an unconditional apology

This matter is a textbook example of enforcement against dishonest adoption, likelihood of confusion, dilution of a well-known trademark, and misappropriation of copyright-protected works, particularly in the digital ecosystem where brand misuse can rapidly erode goodwill.

At Nagpal & Associates LLP, we continue to deliver strategic, rights-driven IP enforcement, ensuring that established brands receive the highest degree of legal protection they are entitled to under law.
