Prospects of India getting an IPR exchange along the lines of Hong Kong and Britain become prominent. If established, it could pave the way for easier monetization and trading of IPR assets.

The mechanism put in place for the exchange will determine it's ultimate success.

UK's National Infrastructure Commission in its report titled "Connected Future" has ranked countries based on their 4G coverage.

Significantly, India has been ranked 24th, ahead of many developed countries including Switzerland, France, Germany and the UK.

South Korea, Japan and Lituania take the podium respectively while USA is ranked 10th and UK - 54th.

"The offence is not in viewing, but in making a prejudicial distribution, a public exhibition or letting for sale or hire without appropriate permission copyright-protected material," clarified Justice Gautam Patel of the Bombay High Court.

The Bombay high court has said it is inaccurate to suggest that merely viewing an illicit copy of a film is a punishable offence under the Copyright Act.

The Office of the Controller General, Patents, Designs and Trademarks notified the Patent (Amendment) Rules 2016 today.

Highlights:
1. Includes special provisions for patent filing to encourage Start-ups.
2. An expedited patent examination process is provided at an extra charge.
3. Simplified a number of forms and filing procedures.
4. The Make in India centric provisions which found mention in the Draft Rules are missing from the final Rules.

The Office of the Controller General, Patents, Designs and Trademarks has issued new guidelines for examination of Computer Related Inventions (CRI). The guidelines prescribe the way in which the Patent Office will scrutinise patent applications. The new guidelines effectively disallow patent grants to Software patents.
