Childsafetyatwork

Childsafetyatwork Assisting in creating a healthy and safe environment for children. An offender can be a child’s known or total stranger.

We believe that, child sexual abuse (CSA) is the social exploitation and victimization of a child by an adult, adolescent or another child. Compared to adults, children find it much more difficult to disclose abuse due to several reasons. A perpetrator need not necessarily be an adult. Also, it’s not always a male who is a sexual offender. Similarly, it’s not always a girl child who is the victim.

We view such matters extremely seriously as they not only lead to illegal acts but also result in long term trauma for the child continuing to their adult life as well. We support organizations & institutions in their efforts towards a harassment free environment (www.childsafetyatwork.com). We believe that creation of awareness on POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act) and training of those involved in redressal mechanism is a must for a healthy and safe environment for Children.

Every year, this week exists for one reason: the start of a new academic session is when freshers are most vulnerable, and when institutions have the most power to set the tone before harm happens, not after.

Ragging isn't tradition. It's bullying with seniority attached to it, and the law now says so explicitly. Since 2016, India's UGC Regulations recognize that ragging includes discrimination and exclusion based on identity, not just the "hazing" stereotype most people picture.

This year's theme: (Youth Against Ragging Initiative), from UGC's National Anti-Ragging Monitoring Agency, is a reminder that change on campus doesn't start with a circular. It starts with students choosing each other over silence.

To every student: you don't need a title or a badge to make this week matter. A senior who checks in on a fresher, a bystander who says "that's not okay," a fresher who reports without fear, that's the whole system working. You are a part of the anti-ragging mechanism, not just its beneficiaries.

When a child discloses abuse, should an institution investigate first or report first? The Supreme Court, in AAA v. Linda Sema & Ors., has clarified that institutions cannot conduct preliminary inquiries before reporting a suspected offence under the POCSO Act. The duty to report arises upon receiving information of a possible offence, and any delay may compromise the investigation and the preservation of crucial evidence. The ruling reinforces that child safety must take precedence over internal verification, making it imperative for schools and organisations working with children to establish clear reporting mechanisms and strengthen compliance with their statutory obligations.
