SC : NON JUDICIAL STAMP PAPERS DO NOT HAVE ANY EXPIRY PERIOD BEING USED FOR A DOCUMENT.
Section 52-B of the Bombay Stamp Act 1958 applicable for Maharashtra provides for a validity period of 06 months from the date of purchase. The amendment w.e.f 31.8.2001 brought in the Bombay Stamp (Gujarat Amendment Act) 1958 applicable for Gujarat has added Section 52-C to the principal Act to restrict the validity of the stamp paper to six months from the date of purchase. In the result the validity of stamp papers purchased in Maharashtra and Gujarat stands limited to six months from the date of purchase of the stamp paper.

The Indian Stamp Act, 1899 nowhere prescribes any expiry date for use of a stamp paper and the same was upheld by the Hon’ble Supreme Court in Thiruvengada Pillai vs Navaneethammal & Anr. on 19 February, 2008. In the result, stamp papers can be used without any expiry period, except in the state of Maharashtra & Gujarat.
