⚖️ From Monalisa to Asha Verma – the law remains the same.
The recent story of Monalisa Bhosle coming to Kerala and marrying the person she chose has sparked a huge online discussion.
This reminded me of a case I handled before the Kerala High Court involving Asha Verma and Mohammad Galib, an interfaith couple from Jharkhand who came to Kerala seeking protection for their marriage.
Different stories.
Different circumstances.
But the same constitutional principle.
When two adults decide to choose each other, the law protects their decision.
The Supreme Court has repeatedly affirmed this right in judgments like
Shafin Jahan v. Asokan K.M. and
Lata Singh v. State of Uttar Pradesh.
Love may start a story, but the Constitution protects the right to live it.

हाल ही में Monalisa Bhosle के केरल आकर अपनी पसंद के व्यक्ति से शादी करने की खबर सोशल मीडिया पर काफी चर्चा में है।
इस घटना ने मुझे उस केस की याद दिलाई जिसे मैंने केरल हाई कोर्ट में संभाला था, जहाँ Asha Verma और Mohammad Galib, झारखंड से आए एक इंटरफेथ कपल, अपनी शादी की सुरक्षा के लिए अदालत पहुँचे थे।
कहानियाँ अलग हो सकती हैं।
परिस्थितियाँ अलग हो सकती हैं।
लेकिन कानून का सिद्धांत एक ही है।
जब दो बालिग लोग एक-दूसरे को चुनते हैं, तो कानून उनके फैसले की रक्षा करता है।
सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने भी इस अधिकार को कई फैसलों में मान्यता दी है, जैसे

Lata Singh v. State of Uttar Pradesh।
प्यार एक कहानी शुरू करता है, लेकिन उसे जीने का अधिकार संविधान देता है।
