🚨 3.9 Lakh NDPS Cases Pending in India! Is Our Justice System Overburdened? ⚖️
India is currently dealing with nearly 3.96 lakh pending cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. To address this growing backlog, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has asked all States and Union Territories to establish exclusive Special NDPS Courts for faster trials.
The numbers are alarming.
📍 Punjab has over 60,000 pending NDPS cases but not a single exclusive Special NDPS Court.
📍 Kerala has around 50,000 pending cases, yet only 2 Special NDPS Courts.
Several other states, including Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, West Bengal, and Himachal Pradesh, are also facing a significant backlog.
This isn't just about statistics. Every delayed trial weakens the criminal justice system, affects victims, burdens courts, and gives organised drug networks more time to operate.
As Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized, the fight today is no longer only against drugs—it's also against organised crime, narco-terrorism, and cross-border criminal networks.
